Alright fellas. Got all my parts, cables and crap. Taking it to a shop for them to build it in the next like week. 9800x3d, new case and all, going to be great. Keeping my 3080. Was going to just bring along the power supply from my current PC since I'm using the same drives as well as the GPU. But got thinking. Should I get a new power supply? My current one's got plenty of headroom, it's 1000W. But the 40 series gpus and 50 series all use that new "12VHPWR" connector right? Which is different from the normal 16 pins (actually 2x8 pins) I've got on my 3080 right now, right? So, if I decide to upgrade, I'll have to get a new power supply, and basically rebuild the whole PC from scratch. So the question is, should I get a new power supply now with future upgrades in mind? Can I even, or would one that has the new 12VHPWR connector not have the connector to support my current 16 pin pcie powered GPU? Realistically, im probably not going to get a new GPU for years, the 3080 still kicks ass and will keep doing that hopefully until it dies. But what do you think? Is it worth it? Is it even possible to get a power supply that supports both last and current gen GPU power connectors?
