Picture of a widely shared ritual in modern Finland: people gathering to family homes on Finlands independence day December 6, to watch in TV how our president and his/her's spouse shake hands with all the people invited to their official independence day party.

It takes about 2-4 hours, people drink and eat while discussing the outfits and persons shaking hands.

A very fun fact. It is almost like the Macy's Day Parade in United States. People watch the parade and hosts provide commentary on the floats and groups involved. It usually lasts several hours and people just leave it on in the background while doing Thanksgiving (November 25) tasks.

Nice! A similar thing plays out on December 10th in Sweden, but it is the Nobel prize banquet and not independence day.
