Assad certainly was a shitbag, but I'm not quite sure that the "rebels" will make things any better. Depends on which splinter group of the rebels claws its way to the top (it's likely gonna be another shitbag).
It doesn't matter. Maybe it will get worse, maybe it will get better. Not doing anything because it can get worse is one of dumbest stances that you can assume.

There already is a figure head Abu Mohammad al-Julani. There's always a degree on uncertainty something only time will resolve. But for the moment he's broadcasting country first and a unification of the Syrian people
