I don't know, i think the Nats have plenty of scare campaigns, keep the sheep, guns, train lines (maybe a tortured angle after the announcement early this week).
People in WA might be satisfied enough atm that Liberals need to demonstrate they at least can be an effective opposition first, before presenting themselves as a 'government in waiting' to the State.
Interesting to read this. He is basically saying he doesn't think it's possible for Labor to lose the election.
Even if the Liberal and National parties recover every seat lost in 2021, Labor would still be in office with its commanding majority from 2017.
That's a fairly good point - and I think he's also saying this is unlikely. Particularly when he gets to the seats near the Ellenbrook line later.
I don't want Basil Zempilas to be member for Churchlands; I'd much rather see Sean L'Estrange return. Basil hasn't been a good lord mayor, he relies entirely on his newsreader personality to come over as knowledgeable on matters, when in reality none of that was original content for him. He actually comes over as arrogant and completely out of touch, instead. His treatment of that women's refuge house in East Perth in particular was awful - even if he was right about their contract being up. Zero empathy or sensitivity until it made the news. I find it hilarious that he attempted a run at party leadership without even holding a seat. You just know that he'll try again if he wins.
If by some miracle Christine Tonkin retains the seat, it will really knock the Libs for six. It's long past time that all parties stopped taking their "safe seats" for granted. I can't see that happening though. I honestly can't think of anything special she's done for the electorate. I doubt the Labor party really thought she had a chance of winning when they put her forward. Still, she's 69 this year - I suppose politics was a retirement hobby (She only joined the party in 2015) that turned into an accidental job. If It were me, I'd want to lose so I could retire on that parliamentary pension. π

It was funny, for sure! But i think it was probably the right choice for him personally, and the party generally to try.
The Liberals in WA haven't covered themselves in glory, the factional infighting i think is ready to termite internal stability, Mettam appears weak every time she does a populist backflip, and they continue to appear as the minor party in a Nats-Lib coalition. Whether thats the case or not, the perception hurts them.
And then theres the WA Nationals, who've performed better, Mia Davies seems to keep her nose clean, and by all accounts was quite effective. The only annoyance is the constant badgering to find wedge issues to drive community division for electoral gains. Its crappy, because it means they ain't selling much policy wise, but they at least know the game they're playing.

These posts are pretty hostile to annyone not on a lemmy instance. All they contain is a link to the aussie.zone site which is unreadable without creating a logon on that site. So basically useless and clagging my timeline.My only options are going to be mute or block you but it would be better if the site software behaved in a more friendly manner.
It's a post on the Lemmy Perth community that links to an ABC article about Perth. I don't know what you expect OP to do differently. There's no requirement to create an account to view it on Lemmy, so in the worst case it's just two clicks to access the linked article, or one click to access OP's commentary on said article.
FWIW you're on Mastodon, which is infamous for a poor non-standards-compliant implementation of ActivityPub. So it's more than a little ironic for you to come from that platform and be so incredibly rude to OP over something that is entirely out of their hands.

My biggest complaint is that the link you send to Mastodon is NOT a link to the story being referenced it is a link to aussie.zone which is just stupid in the extreme.
That's a Mastodon problem. You'll be far more productive if you open an Issue with the Mastodon developers to improve how they handle posts in Lemmy communities than you will whinging here to us.

Consider our perspective: we're on https://aussie.zone/ (a Lemmy site) making normal posts to https://aussie.zone/c/perth .
aus.social has decided to federate this community and interpret this post as a Mastodon post that you're seeing. We didn't choose for that to happen, most of us didn't even know that was happening, and for us, it's not nice to see someone coming over and blaming us for what Mastodon has done and threatening to mute or block us.
Your concern is real and valid, but we're not the ones causing it and we can't fix it. It's a Mastodon problem.

First, just posting a link is completely normal behaviour on Lemmy. OP is a Lemmy user posting on Lemmy according to Lemmy norms. Anybody on other platforms who doesn't like that...π€·ββοΈ
But second, they didn't "just publish a link". They published a link along with nearly 400 characters worth of personal opinion. It's not their fault Mastodon fails to display this properly, and yes, it's extremely arrogant to expect OP to take any action to remedy it. Nor would I put the blame on a Mastodon user if they shared an image in the comments under a Lemmy post, or shared two or more images in a post they submitted to a Lemmy community, both things that will not display on Lemmy. Instead, I would just go and temporarily view things from their instance using the rainbow pentagon fediverse logo or the "open original page" menu item, and then get on with my day.

I have no idea why you keep saying you can't follow it. I visited your Mastodon instance in an incognito window, clicked the link, and had no trouble getting to the original ABC article. No log-in required at any stage. If you're having trouble following it, that sounds like a problem specific to you.
If you don't like this, then block OP. Block all Lemmy users you come across. Or open an Issue on the Mastodon GitHub (or better yet, fix it yourself and create a Pull Request) to improve the handling of this edge case. But coming here whinging about something nobody here can do anything about is completely un-constructive. Coming here saying you're going to block OP if they don't stop (despite them doing...precisely nothing wrong) is like when people whinge in the YouTube comments and say "that's it...I'm unsubscribing". Nobody cares bro. Just do it, or don't. Either way, it doesn't need to be announced.

In my case I am following # Perth.
So had a quick look at your lemmy history, sorry if that feels like an invasion but i'm trying to find context for your issue. I see you commented on a c/fuckcars post with a link to a forbes article. That community is on another instance so could be instructive, if that link worked?
What i'm trying to ascertain is whether, as i suspect, theres not really anything i can do because its an interoperability problem between masto and lemmy, something for the developers of each platform to hopefully work out one day. If they wish to. Or whether we're talking an aussie zone specific issue. In that case maybe the admins of AZ can weigh in @[email protected] @[email protected]
In the meantime, if theres an answer for link breakages crossing from lemmy to mastodon that you or others on mastodon know about, i'd be happy to accomodate those links in posts, if possible.
Also, personally i find the language used in your OG comment, like "hostile", an aggressive tone to take for something thats likely a federation or technical issue. Doesn't motivate me to be to accomodating. I've tried to be constructive, i appreciate the same.

Just went on to Mastodon seems like you can actually follow the c/Perth itself.
Maybe it grabs the community field in the lemmy post as the hashtag automatically for mastodon?
My guess (I don't know for sure) is that Mastodon is interpreting all posts in "/c/perth" as a thread with #perth added to it, and for example, all the /c/asklemmy's will be seen by them as #asklemmy (regardless of which instance's /c/asklemmy it is). So if they follow #perth, they'd get all our /c/perth posts.
I haven't looked into inter-format federation much but as we've seen, it can get funky. Consider this (pseudo-)community: https://aussie.zone/c/[email protected]
It's really Lemmy reading this PeerTube video channel as a community, so we can basically subscribe to and comment on a video channel from here!
That pseudo-community is an interesting experiment someones done. So this is almost like what people would have to do in walled gardens to have a channel on each platform, but an automatically updating lemmy community version from the peertube platform's channel. I think i get it.
So in my basic parlance it means a creator could set these up, post to a single preferred platform and have the post spread in an intelligible way to Lemmy. Potentially cutting down on a lot of extra admin and configuring by the creators using multiple platforms.

I haven't tested, but I believe it's also a pathway to allow us to use our Lemmy accounts to leave comments on PeerTube videos, to up/downvote them and to subscribe, on ways that make sense to us as Lemmy users and which make sense to the PeerTube users seeing our comments on their videos.
I think I see what @[email protected] is saying. If I search up #perth from Mastodon, I get this:
Each link goes to Aussie.zone instead of the end news sites. If we didn't appreciate federation, it'd look like a bunch of blog posts all to some random site being posted to /c/Perth.
I agree that it's a Mastodon issue: the destination url is a part of the post. They could link to there instead of the Lemmy instance.
