Just got my hands on the Surreal Touch controllers, and wow... these things are a total game-changer for anyone using an Apple Vision Pro for VR gaming. They're specifically designed for the Vision Pro and work perfectly with a custom version of ALVR to connect to SteamVR. The setup is ridiculously simple - plug-and-play easy. No base stations, no digging through menus. It took me maybe five minutes to get everything running.

The build quality is incredible. They feel like something Apple themselves could have made - smooth rubberized plastics, super comfortable to hold, very sturdy, and charged via USB-C (thankfully). You can really tell they nailed the premium feel.

Each controller has two cameras for inside-out tracking, plus gyro etc. The tracking is very accurate, and when combined with the insane visual quality of the Vision Pro, it absolutely blows every other VR headset out of the water. I’ve used origial Oculus, Rift S, Quest 2-3 before, and honestly, this controllers transform the AVP into the ultimate VR gaming device.

Now, for the downsides. Because these lack tracking halos, in some VR games, your hands might appear slightly misaligned or look a bit floaty. It’s not very often, but it does happen, so hopefully devs will find a solution if possible. Anyway, with the sleek design and how incredibly easy they are to use, I can live with it. Plus, newer games or developers optimizing for this type of tracking shouldn’t encounter these issues.

I do hope more native Vision Pro apps and games start supporting these controllers. Right now, they’re mainly geared toward ALVR/SteamVR gaming. If developers begin integrating them into Vision Pro-exclusive titles, these could truly redefine gaming on the platform.

TL;DR: Surreal Touch is the best add-on you can get right now for the Apple Vision Pro if you’re into VR gaming. Incredible build quality, easy setup, no tinkering or base stations needed, and it makes SteamVR games look stunning on the AVP. Minor quirks in older games, but nothing deal-breaking. Highly recommend if you want to take your Vision Pro gaming experience to the next level.
