A community dedicated to fediverse news and discussion.

Fediverse is a portmanteau of "federation" and "universe".

Getting started on Fediverse;

MODERATORS

this community has a sole goal of making the fediverse big enough to compete with popular social media platforms of today, and even replacing them altogether as our endgame.

it's as though seems like were trying something impossible here, regardless:

TL;DR; if anyone can come up with a good name for this community, please post it in the comments.

so far we have:

  • 24 Hours of Fediverse
  • Fediverse World Tour
  • fed up!
  • D-central

edit; this is not just for a lemmy community. as mentioned below, we have a wide variety of things that were gonna do in the future. so were not just confined to a sublemmy, obviously. more like a community organization. see the previous post.

what about "fed up!"?

we are fed up with popular social media and we also want to "up" the fediverse

EDIT: I actually had a similar idea to OP a few months ago and I already created [email protected] but I got sidetracked by IRL things. I would be glad to give someone else a mod role if anyone is interested

This is my favorite thus far. Short for federated, and it sums up one of the purposes of federated platforms.

I like this one too

im mad as hell and im not going to take it anymore

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 years ago

this one is pretty good

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago

I'll keep it in the list :)

let's work together then. I really need someone I can trust to handle the hosting account (because of my age), and I kind of have plans that would need some assistance. we can share ideas if you want to.

this is a good one, its got two sounds like 'face''book', aswell as 'goo''gle'.

How about making the name obvious, so someone can easily know what it is about when seeing it in stuff like the list of communities on lemmy.

"fediverse promotion"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago

I like this. All I could think of was fedi advertising, but I don't like associating with paid advertisements, which suck

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago (1 children)

the thing is, this thing is not just for lemmy. I'm looking for a name that we could use universally for our community. (since were gonna do github projects, have our own website, a youtube/peertube channel, etc. ... maybe even take over the world lol, just joking :) )

Then maybe "the fediverse promotion project".

This sounds pretty similar to the Federated Networks Association which hosts some projects on the subject we distritute and fediverse.party.

It might make more sense to collaborate with an existing organisation then starting a new one.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

I'll collaborate with them maybe, but as a separate community, they have a similar vision. but mine is entirely different from how we approach things. creativity is the key here. to stand out. and viral marketing.

I'm working alone right now, so It'll take a while before the next step.

get in the damn robot

I was inspired by sports car races, how about 24 Hours of Fediverse? It will be an endurance race after all.

People want Fediverse to be used widely all around the world, Fediverse World Tour would also be fitting.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 years ago

24 Hours of Fediverse is a fun name, and it doesn't also sound like an activist name at all, which fits our image, we're gonna have a fun war against big media corporations after all.

I'll keep that on my list, thanks :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 years ago (1 children)

that gave me a really good idea, a since were kind of doing something impossible, we should make it as if this was a game for us users.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

It sounds like an event. Maybe 24 hours of only using the fediverse. Nothing else - no search engines, no chat apps. Fediverse only. Ask people searchqueries you would usually search for, no chats would also serve as a bit of a detox, etc.

I want the community to choose because It's gonna be a community project. besides, I'm pretty bad at naming things like this.

good suggestion though :)

I like "Up to you" because, at least to me, it evokes empowerment, ability to take a decission, personal responsability, and control over it. And it has a positive feeling, but up to you ;-)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 years ago

oh.. that was kind of smooth. thanks for saying that, now I feel motivated

Fediverse Singularity

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago (1 children)

Fediverse Evangelists. Probably not that great of an idea tbh.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 years ago (1 children)

More than evangelists I imagine it as passively causing interest in it,

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

It's something like that, I would try keeping the community as non-toxic as possible.

Fedifirst?
I'd rather fedi(verse)?
The Fediration?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago

fedifirst is fantastic

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago (1 children)

What good will a catchy name do if the corresponding domain name isn't available?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago

there is always another .net , .org , .com ... , if an existing company already took It's name, we'll just come up with another name.

besides unlikely someone would buy a fediverse related name. who tf has that idea.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago (1 children)

try to get some wordplay on the term "decentralised". I feel that there is some potential in there.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago

heh, very nice, very clever, I like it

The Church of Fediverse.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 3 years ago (3 children)

Don't do this, Fediverse is great because it is niche, going mainstream always ruins everything. Stop.

If this comment didn't change your mind than FediArmy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 years ago (1 children)

what @[email protected] just said.

also I don't think I'll be stopping, because, well, I have a good enough reason to do this. it has to do with my career path. so if anyone want to stop me now, uhh... good luck with that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago

I like the fact that it's niche right now, but if it evolves in something bigger I think it can be good as long as it stay with the same philosophy. Of course there are pros and cons for both ideas because not everything is black or white, there are shades of gray and that is also the beauty of everything.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 years ago

The beauty of the fediverse is that you can have it all: mainstream adoption of the network, with as many niche servers as desired.
