That calculator only has "NP" labeled on the top right switch, but I saw another similar one that had the other setting labeled "P". What is that switch for? It's really funny in the context of computer science.

Probably no print?
Edit: Snippet of another calculator manual
So no proof of P != NP
. Too bad.
I couldn't tell to be honest. It didn't have a very obvious effect, but I didn't figure out how to use it yet. I think it's my first RPN calculator which complicates things a little bit.
I tried for a while using my usual sources for various manuals, but came up empty. You may need to try to find some kind of Japanese source for this manual it seems. Also, given that this post is in the top results for that model of adding machine, I wouldn't hold my breath.
What a sweet find!
Is it possible that it was left out in part because the feed mechanism is broken? Or that, being out in the elements did some damage?
I can't help with the manual, but I think you're on the right track with eliminating user error first. From your description, it sounds as if there's an obstruction below the ribbon, or more likely that it's jammed and the system knows enough to not try to force the paper and is disengaging the feed. Can you manually move the print ribbon arms?
