Fediverse vs Disinformation

744 readers

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Quick Take

President Donald Trump said his administration blocked $50 million for condoms to be sent to Gaza through its pause on foreign aid. But it has provided no evidence that $50 million was ever directed toward condoms for Gaza. The contractor identified by the State Department said it has not used U.S. aid “to procure or distribute condoms.”

If I think of the silliest thing possible they could use this as an excuse for, I'd say they'll use it to ban condoms somehow. I'm not leaving anything off the table these days. And if it does happen because of this I will eat my own hat because that's just fucking stupid.

Some "facts" really just done need to be fact checked.

Like Congress really appropriated funds for condoms to an group IT defined as a terrorist organization when they won't even fund condoms for their own people. By my calculations that is approximately 1667 condoms for each member, not including overhead.
