Rules

  1. Please stay on-topic: post about otome games. Otome games are romance games aimed at women who want to romance men. For the purposes of this community, games with female love interests (LIs) count as long as it isn't mostly female LIs: men should be at least half of the LI options. Note that you do not have to be a straight woman to post: people outside the target demographic play too, and you are welcome here. Amare games will be allowed given how small the community on the Fediverse is for it, and how they overlap with otome, but if the community starts to overwhelmingly have non-otome amare posts I reserve the right to change this rule and redirect those posts to a new amare community.
  2. In an effort to keep this community more discussion-based, please only post fanart and the like if you made the art yourself. Your own fanart, cosplays, etc. are very welcome.
  3. Don’t be a jerk.

3a. No bigotry or discrimination. This includes but is not limited to homophobia, racism, sexism, etc.

3b. Be respectful of other peoples’ tastes. You may absolutely despise an LI and want to discuss it, and that’s fine. Casting negative aspersions on or directly insulting people who love that LI is not fine. What we find interesting in fiction does not always directly translate to real-life desires.

  1. Please don’t directly link to pirated content.
  2. Tag any NSFW content as such. If you are not sure whether to tag it that way, err on the side of caution and tag.
  3. Please indicate spoilers. The following format works on both Lemmy and Kbin, but if you are using an app it may not. See this comment for which apps handle spoilers. Note that spoilers in post bodies will just show the text in the preview if you link the post in, say, Discord, instead of spoiling it.
Spoilers for OtomeGame: The GameSomething that happened at the end of the game! Something else that happened at the end of the game!

That will appear as:

7. When promoting an otome you have worked on, please use common sense for what is spammy. If there's about four new posts here weekly, don't post a progress update weekly—we don't want self-promotion overwhelming the community. But we do want to inform people of new otome and dev updates are cool, so do post them here every once in awhile! I reserve the right to change this rule to be more specific about what exactly counts as spammy and what does not, but I feel I'll know it when I see it and trust most posters to operate in good faith.

Our backup community is [email protected].

Q: Why is this needed?A: TL;DR: We have had to start over a lot due to instances dying.

  1. First, otome on Lemmy/Mbin started with Kbin, at [[email protected]](/c/[email protected]), which went down when kbin.social had federation issues and eventually went down.
  2. Then we moved to [[email protected]](/c/[email protected]), which went down when kbin.run unexpectedly vanished.
  3. So we moved again to [email protected], where we can hopefully stay. If not, we jump to…
  4. [email protected].

If you're fast or just on Lemmy at the right time you might have noticed I deleted a very similar post—I reworked all the future weekly posts to have the phrase "otome games" in the title, and accidentally posted a version of the weekly post without that phrase. (A bit ago, we got one person from what I'm assuming is the Local feed commenting with a non-otome game they played. I assumed this was because the title was "What are you playing this week of January 12, 2025?" which could imply all games—otome is only specified in the sub name and post description. Figured I ought to clarify in the post title too.)

That's also why one January 26th weekly post got deleted and replaced with another. Accidentally posted the version that did not have "otome games" in the title.

None of them had comments so nothing of value was lost, but I figured I ought to be transparent. After this I went in and fixed the scheduled posts so this probably will not happen again.

Started Dark Nights (Steam link). Wasn't anywhere on my backlog, I should actually be playing Sympathy Kiss and Cupid Parasite right now. But my friends decided to play it as a group so here I am!

I majorly appreciate that they have a script correction form in case I come across any typos—I tend to notice even when I'm not trying and get bothered. Have not seen any in this game yet, got up to Day 7 before I hit save and exited right at what I think might be where I start picking between guys. Yep, quitting right before the first choice in the game! I'm indecisive.

MC definitely has a defined personality. She can stand up for herself and I really appreciate that! Sometimes I am not too sure I have a handle on what she is like yet, but she definitely has a personality and I'm not too far in so I'm not too bothered by not being able to read her immediately.

You live in a small, peaceful village. Every day is the same as any other; boring. Right when you wish for something exciting to happen

from the game description. I find this pretty clever, not sure if it's intentional. One reason people play games is to relieve boredom. So when they come to play, it'll probably add a degree of relatability with her more than they would usually have if they don't have as much as an entertainment-seeking personality as she does, or they are not the type to wish for something exciting to happen.

I find it funny the school and her bedroom both have "Bright Days" written somewhere contrasting the game title when it's day. When it turned to night in her bedroom it then said "Dark Nights". Switched back once it turned to day. Cute.

I know this is just a default Renpy setting, but I really appreciate that the game lets me set text speed. I had just come out of playing a game that forced me to wait for the text to crawl across the screen, no way to force it to fully appear instantly, and as an at-least-average-speed reader, that was painful. In this game, I'm clicking for the next dialogue reaaaaal fast on the dialogue here, not sure if that's a "you're impatient" thing or if any of the game's pacing/writing has to do with it, because I'm definitely not sitting and taking it in carefully.

spoiler territory thoughts up to Day 7I did not know the "take your turns to go in a circle" trick to tell if someone is following you, the game taught me on literally day one of the game. Video games can be educational!

Curious if that freshman MC rejected will turn out to be an LI, or if he's the white-haired boy we saved from the rain.

MC said "no comment" to her friend saying "meeting new people or falling in love will make your life more exciting [and you're always complaining about boredom]", my "character has hangup" senses are tingling.
