resetERA is an unusual source for this, but the OP is just direct screencaps off of LinkedIn of people saying they were laid off, and it's hard to get more definitive than that in terms of sourcing

It's LinkedIn, you can just go check. The screenshots are indeed real.

The only decent game companies left appear to be the indies

I do believe Valve also counts as Indie. They are privately owned and self-publish.

I'd say indie should be a smaller company, not one of the industry pillars.

But it's arguable, their style is different, to say the least.

Sometimes.

They mostly make money though.

It's been a while, but yeah. I do believe they have a couple of projects in the works.

Whether or not they'll amount to anything is anyones guess.

One of multiples R&D teams got laid off, an American team, not the main devs.

How come they fired the whole team and then started posting game promos on YouTube right afterwards lol

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

They fired the devs, not marketing /s

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

Maybe they wanted to give the Marketing department a raise

> write successful game

> get laid off

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

It's a small team of 6 in the USA that worked as a support team for R&D, no one there "wrote the successful game".

How many were laid off? Did they hire another people maybe? I would be careful with premature conclusions based on this single event. It would be hilarious if those laid off people go to work on Overwatch...

the going theory is that this is effectively the western division of NetEase getting axed because they're not important enough and "cost too much" to keep around

6 people in a support team working on R&D

LMFAO. Good, can't wait for the newest Chinese spyware to die.
