Specific request but I only just realised that it’s an amazon company. I use it to look up film data and ratings/reviews as well as track films I watched and those I want to watch in the future.

Alternatives I’ve seen are TMDB which looks nice, but that’s from the US too as far as I know and letterboxd which is from New Zealand but takes the data from TMDB anyways. Also I’m not looking to have my watchlists public.

Any recommendations?

Almost any service except IMDb takes it's based data from TMDb. It is the source for freely available crowd collected movie data.

There are self hosted alternatives like Mediatracker, Flox, Watcharr etc that are hit and miss depending on your requirements and none of them as polished as a commercial service. All of them too rely on base data from TMDb.

NeoDB is the closest thing to a federated/open source alternative, but it seems it is not ready for prime time yet. At least there is no English speaking flagship instance available. It's being actively developed though, I'd say it's worth watching.

Edit: the community shared by @[email protected] pointed me here: https://reviewdb.app/ - but there's still a lot of Chinese going on.
