Hmm, it feels like there is more to the story. Yes, the inconveniences and someonsticles are expected. Otherwise it would be a boycot. But I'm inclined to give your mum benefits of the doubt, and wonder how much it affect you'd day-to-day life and your mental health. It's OK to take a step beck and reevaluate where you take the hits.
Boycott is like diet, the best one is one that you can fallow trought. You droping just some key US products continously would be more effective than going 100% cold turkey and burn down. If you change only the "easy wins" it'll still be impactful.
