From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

System76 has released Linux 5.11 and Mesa 21.0 for both Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS and Pop!_OS 20.10. This incorporates support for RX 6000 series GPUs, which was the primary reason for the update.

If anyone is running AMD Stoney they might want to be a bit careful with 5.11 kernels; from 5.11-rc1 to 5.11.8 it gets stuck on loading initial ramdisk. The issue is solved in >=5.11.9.
