A used HTC:Vive isn't that expensive anymore. The problem rather is the current insane GPU prices.

Stories do not need to follow a linear time progression. And gameplay / immersion wise HL:Alyx is another milestone very similar to what HL1 and HL2 were when they first came out.
No, Left 4 Dead is left for dead, even TF2 receives more attention.
