“Greatest” is an opinion. To many, it was never the greatest at anything besides attracting a lot of people by giving the players exactly what they asked for to the detriment of the game itself.

Personally I think it was the greatest in the days of vanilla and TBC. I know a lot of people enjoyed WotLK and beyond but I haven't enjoyed any MMO since vanilla and TBC except for the recent re-release of classic WoW.
