I played this game for weeks and absolutely loved it. I need to pick it back up and see what’s changed over the years.
Amazingly fun game and one of the few that I could just get lost in the role playing.

same here! I regularly play for months and then drop the game for a while. I recently found it on f-droid, which is how I got back into it. I've been looking at the wiki and there's tons of new stuff!
I've had a couple of stints in the game, Steam says I've played for over 44 hours over the years. Still don't really understand the deeper mechanics or the story, but enjoy doing random quests and trading with my little fleet (and savescumming when I make a dumb mistake). Had no idea they have a mobile version!
I didn't really groove with it the first time around, but you've convinced me to try it again!
I can understand that. It's pretty heavy on the "compare the numbers" side of RPGs. If you want to move past the grind and play the game with a badass ship, I recommend looking at the unofficial wiki for a ship you like, and then grabbing the All Content plugin from here
Was this always open source? For some reason I thought I saw this on steam years ago?
Open source games can be on steam.
From Endless Sky's introduction on its github:
Endless Sky is free and open source, the product of a growing community of developers and content creators.

Ah thanks, I didn’t realize that. It makes sense.
