From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Hello Everyone,

I have an old laptop with these specs:

  • CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo T5670 @1.80GHz
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Motherboard: HP F.0A/30D8
  • HDD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L

I've installed Lubuntu 18.04.5 and it works well. The only problem is the boot that takes more than 40 second when I turn ON the PC.

Do you have any suggestion to speed up the boot?

Thanks

Replacing the harddrive with an inexpensive solid state drive will do the most to speed up the computer, but you should also prepare to upgrade to a newer laptop in a year or two.

Have you checked your bios settings for boot options? On mine I have 3 different options: fast boot, thorough and auto along with a couple for delays.
