Linux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Sorry for being a GNOME hater, but I find it really telling that every GNOME user seems to be dependant on a list of extensions to get even basic desktop functionality ;)
I personally don't use any extensions, and the desktop works fine for me. You can do pretty much everything you want with keyboard shortcuts.
Yes, I guess GNOME has become pretty keyboard centric. Seems to be a case of developers only considering laptop use & trying to minimize touchpad input. I can see the logic behind that, but I always try to use an external mouse with my laptop...
I also use a mouse whenever I can. Although touchpad gestures are great, a good old mouse feels so much more comfortable.
The desktop is completely usable without extensions. However, it is true that many extensions add functionality that should be built into Gnome itself. For example, there has been a PR open for an option to change the screenshots location since ~3.14, but nothing has happened.
So according to your logic, non GNOME/KDE DEs are feature filled and not barebones? Did you not configure and modify i3wm or XFCE and use it as stock, or do you need any features?
Making fun of people who may need extra functions never comes off as good, especially when you call the vast GNOME extension library just a bunch of "basic desktop functionality".
Hmm, I think you misunderstood. I am a KDE user and apprechiate that basic desktop functionality comes build in with it, while on GNOME it seems previously available desktop features continue to be removed and most GNOME users depend on 3rd party extensions to make GNONE a functional desktop again.
GNOME is definitely a very weird foundation for a popular DE, I agree, but it works for a lot of people. The extension library is very rich and easy to use, so I do not think it is fair to call it crippling, when it gives power users flexibility.
Clipboard Indicator looks incredibly clutch. Thanks OP.
