What does "Subscribe Pending" actually mean? (lemmy.ml)

I've attempted to subscribe to a couple of communities on other instances. When I'm looking at the list of communities, those both say "Subscribe Pending." What is actually happening here? Is there a manual approval process? Some handshaking between instances?

The most confusing part is that some communities on other instances just subscribe instantly. These two didn't. 🤷‍♂️

As far as I know, that is a known bug. Everything works whether you are in the subscribed or subscribe pending state. You can try to resubscribe. Sometimes it changes the status, sometimes it does not. But there is no difference from what I have seen so far from the point of functionality.

You're right. You can't reverse "Subscribe Pending" from the communities list, but if you go into the community in question, you can click the orange "Subscribe Pending" button to unsubscribe. In both of these instances, doing that and retrying resulted in full "Subscribed" status for me. Thank you! 🎉
