If the ability to be a digital nomad had occurred earlier in my life I probably would have gone for it. Now I kind of don't want to be away from my parents because I know they won't be around forever. Plus I have a house and other commitments I don't want to be away from.

I found out about the digital nomad lifestyle at the start of COVID when everybody was working from home. Sounded great, but I couldn't make it happen due to finances. Now with everything going on in the world (War in Ukraine, climate change, etc.) it feels like I dodged a bullet 😬
Americans said "well there's no where to gentrify in America, let's find some new countries to raise rent prices in" lmfao
vaguely reminded of all of the crypto grifters who moved to puerto rico after the island was devastated by Hurricane Maria to take advantage of the cheap real estate/energy and lack of taxation
@mint @dirtmayor if you don't want to know or understand locals why you even bother to be digital nomad. You can work remotely from home in USA or UK.
I currently do work ~~remotely~~ from home in the US. Not long ago I was seriously considering being a digital nomad, though. Seeing this makes me feel like maybe it might not be such a good fit for me 😔
@dirtmayor really depends are you up to make good with locals. Just not everyone has that kind of human skill - and that is fine.
I've been doing okay at getting to know the locals in here Dallas, Texas since I moved here a few years ago, but interacting with people has never been my strong suit. I am improving though. It wasn't too long ago that I would have said knowing your neighbors is unimportant. Nowadays it seems necessary for survival. Never too late I suppose ¯_(ツ)_/¯
