Why isn't there one login that can post on all platforms and I have to signup on each separately?

You can post on all platforms.
I'm on lemmy.ca and I can make posts and comments on lemmy.ml just fine.
On Jerboa its just as easy as posting on your own instance. Idk how it works on the website but I'm sure there's a way.
Ok, is my user on one instance or distributed to all instances or most? If the user is in one server only I understand why almost everyone runs to rhe main instance ignoring the rest of the servers.
What happens if a random server instance hosted in x pc or vps is shutdown? Can the user still logon somewhere or that user lost access to all the feedverse thing?
If the server is shut down can others still see that iser's posts from a distributed system / cache or the user and all posts just disappear if the server is not coming back?
