I linked a Warlockracy video because I really enjoy his choice of games and presentation.

Other channels I really enjoy: Mandalore, Grim Beard, Civvie11, Oboeshoesgames, and Boulder Punch.

If you can’t tell, I like longform, scripted and edited videos on older games and niche games and mods.

Oh boy theres quite a few I watch but heres a few that people haven't mentioned yet.

Neocranium – Streamer but posts edited vods on his channel that are very entertaining. Also quite well versed in the art of 3d animating which they incorporate in their vids!

Valefisk – One man's ongoing mission to torment his friends via the medium of video and board games

Tehsnakerer – If you like your long video essays, I've quite enjoyed having this guy on. Covers a few more obscure games you might not have heard of too! Plus thanks to his series on the Yakuza games I now have like a 10% idea of whats going on in those games xD

Don't really watch any gaming YouTubers anymore (mostly just click through Seagull's Twitch streams whenever I want to watch something gaming related) but I still check out Game Makers Toolkit occasionally. That and Cool Ghosts were the only gaming things I stuck with on YT.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

I watch VanossGaming the most but also Tyler1.

hmmmm I almost exclusively watch Youtube so I will put some of my regulars here with a focus on more positive non-toxic people for you guys in no particular order. they will be a bit reductive for brevity:

Day[9] - top of the list because he seems very well tuned towards what you wrote. a looooooooong time (like 15 years now ?!??) twitch variety gaming streamer, uploads full streams a lot. He constantly takes breaks for long winded rants about game design but honest to god the mans brain is a treasure, the videos always entertain through humor or learning, and ive been watching the guy since justin.tv, so let me tell you he is one of the very few genuinely good people in the space, especially for this long.

Funhaus - mostly tightly edited, almost all comedy focused, and while they use games as a bouncing board for the comedy theyre not often the actual focus of the videos. The cast has rotated through the years for many good reasons, causing changes in humor style but every person on the channel is still extremely funny with a tremendous group chemistry. another 10 year follow for me (if you include inside gaming) which leads me to

Inside Games - mostly focused on gaming news, and LEGIT gaming journalism, with deep dives and fun clown math. This is founded and headed by two of the former Funhaus members who left to return to their roots of the similarly named Inside Gaming, which predates Funhaus. Confusing, i know, but what you need to know is that you can get really concise, funny, good, non-toxic 'Gamer' news about gaming here weekly.

Alanah Games - mixed variety of content, but all focused on gaming. More deep looks at news articles, amazing interviews with voice actors. Alanah was a games journalist and writer for a long time, has a ton of experience and connections, and maintains a positive attitude the whole time. Really smart, and while i dont watch every video, there are definitely a lot that are worth watching. also yes, former Funhaus if you can detect a pattern.

Videogamedunkey - not very positive/non toxic and has had his controversies, but he does always put out very funny gaming content so he deserves a shout out.

Pestily - nearly exclusive tarkov streamer, but he has been branching out to very fun IRL content recently. If you have a mild interest in watching first person shooters, or have played/ do play Escape From Tarkov, hes simply the best for that. Easy to get overwhelmed with how much he uploads across all of his channels but if you can deal with that he is a genuinely good guy with fun interesting content on the regular.

Settled - if you have a mild interest in runescape or have played it extensively, Settled is a wholesome positive guy who plays runescape with truly deranged and extreme restrictions, making every video a true feat of human willpower. He is amazing at explaining things and very funny imo.

Dead or borderline dead channels with an amazing catalog:: Mans1ay3r- very very funny edited voice lines from video games, with manually rigged ragdolls.

Sovietwomble - he uploads so infrequently this is where he lives in my brain. But very funny well edited group gaming content.

Mr. Sark - super funny group content, less tightly edited that womble and never uploads anymore, but ill be damned if i havent watched every single video a few times. Sark is just a good funny neat dude.

Charborg - a lot more niche than the rest here, but Charborg has some true blue insane creative funny stuff. lots of pranks, weird roleplay, garbage garrys mod maps and roblox and Vr chat. a real underbelly of the internet stuff, without getting into the hateful areas.

DanielSL - apparently he streams a lot, but his YT is mostly dead. one of the greatest of all time trolls. calm, never breaks character, devious beyond imagination. He always gets his mark, and his power over other people scares me a bit. Riveting videos, top to bottom in the catalog.

Glad to see Grim Beard getting love online. Love his stuff. Civvie is also top notch.

I've been watching Raocow for years and years and still enjoy watching him and the games he plays.

I also enjoy Wirtual (TrackMania streamer and doco creator), SimpleFlips (Especially his Trouble in Terrorist Town vids), and then Broughy1322 (GTAV/FiveM racing streamer).

I think besides Simple I tend to gravitate toward more 'relaxed' commentary.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Holy shit, raocow, what a blast from the past! I'll also throw in Chip & Ironicus/ChipCheezumLPs. Their LP of 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand is really something else.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Many A True Nerd, Mikeburnfire... does Jerma count? I'll add him

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Christopher Odd, hands down.

Discovered him around the time XCOM2 got released, because I was looking for someone to learn a trick or two from. Learned a lot from how he plays tactical games, but stayed for his calm and down to earth way (I absolutely can't stand that hyper, over-the-top crap that a ton of Let's Players do). Have also discovered the one or other gem through his videos.

Can only recommend!

Oh, and I also watch a ton of stuff on game design due to an interest into game development and recently did a blog post on my favourites there. To quickly summarise that: The Architect of Games, Design Doc, Game Maker's Toolkit, GDC, Noclip, Razbuten

I don't watch a lot of gaming related YT, but the one I can never get enough off is the Angry Video Game Nerd (Cinemassacre). A great combination of intreseting topics/info and humour. I only feel bad for all the destroyed cartidges. I hope he uses fake ones for those scenes 🥲.

I'm a big fan of Baalorlord. He's a top-level slay the spire player with a bunch of world-record streaks, and his main channel is primarily spire play... which may not interest you if you're not into that game. But his archives and variety channel and Baalorlord plays channels have more game variety, with a strategy bent. Recent plays I can think of include xcom, cult of the lamb, brotato and vampire survivors, several deckbuilders other than spire, into the breach, slice and dice, and has a running series where he plays the old snes game chronotrigger.

Super melodious voice, very positive vibe... he never shit talks or makes excuses, top tier strategic analysis on the thinky games, great punny jokes and light atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but Noah Caldwell-Gervais is not only one of my favorite gaming related youtubers; but likely one of my favorite creators on the platform as a whole.

Excellent long-form essays on games, and his travel vlog material is even better. Genuinely one of the best voices in video essays.

EDIT: [here] (https://youtu.be/PyvlamwZ4O8) is one of my favorite pieces he's done. It's a love letter to the new forza game, as well as the mystique of rally racing as a whole.

This is a bit obscure, but does anyone know any good German YouTubers? I'm trying to practice my language skills. :)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

For German YouTubers I can vouch for DiePixelHelden if you like mostly racing games

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This one is a little niche, but Harstem is a Starcraft 2 pro player who does a couple great series of videos related to the game. He's a lot of fun to watch because he has a deadpan sense of humor and an incredibly chill voice.

I'd start with his "Beating Grandmasters with Stupid Stuff" video where he pretends to be AFK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLKc5wwo7a0

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Harstem is wonderful!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

If you like racing/ cars try Failrace his monthly GTA V - Survive the Hunt is so great to watch. He is also great in commentating his races.

Another racing YouTuber is AR12Gaming does mostly Forza content but occasionally does also other racing games.

Last one I want to shoutout is Blackpanthaa. He primarily focuses on Arcade Racing games especially Need for Speed.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

I've been really enjoying https://www.youtube.com/@TheSaltFactory and https://www.youtube.com/@minimme. the salt factory does long form detailed examinations of games and minimme does shorter examinations of obscure games.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Kripparrian. Because he plays the same games as I do and because he is vegan :-). I like him a lot.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Ive been watching oxhorn recently he does narrative videos for the fallout franchise that are great and interesting

AstralSpiff and backseat streams are speedrunners that absolutely wreck games in ways no creator ever intended

Karl jobst and summoning salt are good at narrating speedruns and speedrunning history

Fondly remember the yogscast I think they still do TTT videos

If you want a really good narrator of an old game krugsmash is your man/dwarf he does great with dwarf fortress

For video game development there's horrorscoped

I swear I have the weirdest watchlist lol Ive been mainly watching youtube politics and yet I have all these too XD

PlayFrame Best dark souls “let’s plays” imho

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

I love GManlives for his "man on street" approach and when they were on, I watched Pretty Good Gaming (they closed a few years ago). I also watch the consumer advocate SidAlpha, although he posts rarely due to IRL committments.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I just stumbled into grim beard. He good. Seems he’s doing the civvie bumper skits that are not really connected to any story.

Bingeing his library wile i wait for more content from Mandalore. I will have to try out oboeshouegames and boulder punch

I basically only watch Hermitcraft at this point. My faves are Etho, MumboJumbo, Joe Hills and ZombieCleo (honorable mention to Grian and GoodTimesWithScar)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah another Hermitcraft fan (excellent taste btw). Ive been catching up on Season 9 and I'm challenging myself to watch every hermit's videos. I'm finding every time I watch a video by a hermit I thought I didn't really like that much that they're actually all absurdly entertaining. I'm right about to hit the climax of the RentheKing arc and I'm constantly laughing out loud.

The fact that there's so much talent on that server is insane.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

TBSkyen's Boss Designs Of series is pretty much the pinnacle of Souls analysis as far as I'm concerned. He uses his art degree skills to add a ton of context to what FromSoft might have been thinking about and it's incredibly fun to watch someone really consider and grasp what's happening narrative-wise rather than just vacantly watching something from Vaati after the fact.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Let's Game it Out

Soursweet

Fooster

Anarchy

There are a few more I watch sporadically but these are the main ones

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Gaming is a pretty broad topic, so I'll give a range of answers that are gaming related but not necessarily strictly gameplay.
Summoning Salt - Speedrun Historian
8-Bit Music Theory - Video Game Music Theory
Game Maker's Toolkit - Video Game Design Theory
Jacob Geller - Video Essayist with focus on Games
DougDoug - Community Influenced Gameplay with Light Coding (also hilarious)

But that's my selection.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Not really a content creator, but rather a network of creators - The Yogscast. They're fun, they're all friends, they make me laugh, they're wholesome and cursed at the same time, I love em.
