I'm still tapping the spot where RIF used to be, going to take some time to move on.

Seems sluggish, rough, and low population, but fuck spez so I'll give this an honest chance.
It's good so far; a few UX/UI issues need polishing, some more display options would be nice too.
The whole issue of community@instance is going to take some getting used to for people, and it's not clear how that's going to shake out in the long run. I'm not yet certain whether this will become my default space, but I'm willing to give it a go.
Jerboa kinda sucks and Lemmur straight up doesn't let you sign in.
A lot of communities are unfortunately missing, the Lemmy devs should do a better job of advertising the platform to Reddit expats so we can have more content.
I'm hoping some third party Reddit apps rewrite themselves to support a Lemmy backend.
/u/spez is awful. (First post on Lemmy on any instance!) Looking forward to seeing Lemmy grow!
Honestly I'm glad that reddit is going down the tubes. It's time for a change.
This is my first comment here, hope I'm doing it right!
Hi everyone! I'm /u/thatlightiningjack from reddit! (also obligatory fuck spez)
Figured Iβd just pass along a quick βhelloβ as someone that just jumped on tonight. Keen to see how the service develops and grows. Hope Lemmy in general takes off in time! Certainly early days (nabbing my first name as a user name is always a sign of that!), but thereβs great potential.
Hi! New to this all. From Reddit. I mod a few communities on reddit, nothing big but they are tech related. I know a lot of people on both would want to come over, since everybody is pretty upset with reddit rn.
I just have a few questions maybe somebody could help me with;
Where are instances hosted? Can I host an instance myself?
Our accounts, I heard something about them being cross-platform with some other related websites to this, where are they hosted?
Mastadon's code of conduct says 'Protect our community from harassment, malicious or illegal content', what qualifies as illegal? Something that is illegal in China can be legal in other countries, and vice versa.
I only ask because I see a lot of gray in the rules, which I get is needed, but in the end why have rules if it is all up to the judgement of the particular administrator reviewing the case.
Where are instances hosted? Can I host an instance myself?
Yes. Just get a VPS and run the software. I haven't done it yet, so I can't help with the setup, but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of documentation out there.
Our accounts, I heard something about them being cross-platform with some other related websites to this, where are they hosted?
On the instance you signed up for. an account being cross-platform means a post made on a Lemmy instance will show up on a Kbin, Mastodon or PeerTube (the "Fediverse") instance with the format "@[email protected]"
Something that is illegal in China can be legal in other countries, and vice versa.
Assume the legal framework of the country where the instance you use to post is hosted. For example, if the server running it is physically in Germany, the laws governing what you post will be those of Germany/EU
I think it's an improvement to reddit honestly. The communities seem chill compared to Frontpage so I'll stick around.
is there any advantage of using one instance vs another? I made accounts on both kbin and lemmy.world, is it all the same except whatever UI i prefer?
When i visit some communities in kbin, it tells it the posts might not all be up to date
I'm trying out Jerboa but it keeps telling me I'm not logged in every time I try to do something.
Anyone else having this issue?
I appreciate the speed, at least right now, faster than reddit so that's a bonus !
Just got here since Apollo is going away and I wonβt use Redditβs app. Not sure I quite get how it works yet, so canβt say how I like it so far. Gotta play around with it a bit. Are there any apps for this yet?
Feels like being back on old forums again :) I think I'll like it here
Seems pretty fine, more reddit-like than I thought it would be. First comment!
Was a bit confused about sign up at first but it was actually super easy here. Still have no idea what's going on.
Hello it's great to be here!
Hi, just joined but have been lurking for a day or two.
Just trying to find my bearings at the moment. I haven't joined any communities yet but will look at doing that later today.
I'm hoping that Lemmy is a less toxic space than Reddit became, and that an influx of us refugees doesn't ruin things for people who have been here longer. My hope is that those of us who migrate here learn to fit in with the ethos and rules of Lemmy, rather than trying to change things (or worse, expecting them to change to fit what we're used to "over there").
I'm looking forward to getting stuck in!
I'm enjoying it. The mobile PWA needs a card view like the MLEM app, unless I'm missing something.
New here and ready π«‘
Pretty good, can someone explain how federation works with Lemmy? Are communities linked?
Thanks for having us! I'm excited to try this out. I am only just trying to figure out how all of this works.
I have subscribed to several communities now, but when I go to the main page, I still see the generic content that was there before I logged in. How do I view a feed of just the communities I have subscribed to (analogous to the front page on reddit)
@immadeofgold I'm pretty excited despite it being daunting. It reminds me of the 90s internet days. Looking forward to learning something new and fun.
I'm waiting for some new communities to pop up, but the layout is good.
I suppose the Reddit issue has at least got me to look into Lemmy. Seems interesting, albeit quite small. Still, oak trees grow from small acorns, etc, etc. ;-)
it almost feels liberating leaving reddit and I really like this site its very clean and easy on the eyes. There are some responsiveness problems on mobile but I have no idea if that's just my phone.
