For protection in case some crazy dumbass were to walk around with a gun in the neighborhood, I could feel safer at home. I can feel safer.

Youโ€™ve clearly never worn or handled body armour. Itโ€™s not something you strap on and wear around the house or walking your dog.

What European country do you live in where on street shootings are common enough to justify body armour?

Body armor is totally unnecessary unless maybe you're an on-duty cop or similar. I've witnessed several mass shootings and I can't imagine a situation where I'd wear body armor.

Be aware of your surroundings and try to avoid situations where you're more likely to get shot. Know where the exits are in a crowded building, and stay near the edges of any outdoor crowd so you can make a quick escape. Always trust your instincts if you get a bad feeling or someone seems suspicious. Take some self defense classes. With enough training you can even learn how to disarm an attacker, but don't try it without extensive training.

Laws differ from country or provence. And if you want an answer you'd have to go diging in documents or make phone calls. Might even be best to pay a relavent lawyer a consulting fee and get a real answer.

From what I can say, the eu may only allow you to own armor from complient sources. Anything else becomes more complicated.

I just saw someone tested a TEMU $30 hard and soft body armor trying to disprove its claim to be bulletproof and it somehow actually worked up to quite a decent caliber.

There is also a person (I think in America) making their own and documenting the process.

But it isn't something you wear when not actively in a warzone or searching out a conflict...
