This dishwasher leaks out the door. It seems there should be a gasket there. Unclear why it isn't there, but based on manuals and videos I can find, this model always has one, and it's typical of all dishwashers.

GE has the part listed, and I ordered the correct part number from a cheap third party site. But I can't get it to stay in there long enough to even test shutting the door.

Should I use some kind of high temp adhesive? What if it doesn't actually fit, like it doesn't let the door properly shut? Will it be difficult to remove the adhesive and try again? I hate dishwashers, but this is for someone else.

Thanks for any input

I haven't gleaned any extra clues there but I'm at a loss. Stupid thing is listed for $430 u.s.

I once put a "gasket" on a dishwasher by cleaning the counter side, sticking a nice fat bead of rtv on there, greasing the door side so it wouldn't stick, and closing the door for a few days. Dishwasher's old as I am, fix was ~8 years back and holding strong

Is this what you have? https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/parts/spec/WD08X23476

Found it via the "body" parts diagram from the link you posted.

RepairClinic has a good video. It looks super easy. https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Seal/WD08X23476/4466530

I've been having a hell of a time lately getting one part for my dishwasher. One company has twice sent me a box with the right part number on the outside and a different part in the box. I got fed up with them and ordered from another company and they drop shipped it from the first company so now I have 3 brand new wrong parts. This has been going on for over a month now and it's driving me nuts.

Maybe they sent you the wrong part?

I'm not very handy, so grain of salt here:

I'm thinking that the gasket you have isn't the correct part (even if the third party says it is). I would double check the dishwasher model number, ensure you have the right gasket for that, and then order OEM if you were previously correct.

I think if you glue in the gasket, even if it holds, it would likely leak somewhere from not properly fitting.

you have the original, or did you order new retaining clips for the gasket? they are meant to hold the gasket in place.

also, there might be 2 different gaskets. mine has an inner, and outer door gasket. bother visually similar, but different at the end of the day

They can be a bitch, for sure.

The corners love to pull out, so last one I did I started with the corners and glued those fucker in with Goop adhesive. Waited for the glue to cure overnight, then put the rest of the gasket in (and glued it too for good measure).

Edit: looks like you're missing the filter at the bottom too. This is one of those shitty filter type dishwashers.

Removed the filter and such for cleaning

There should be a groove where it mates with the door.

[–] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to do. You can see the groove in the pic. I suppose it's just a bad or wrong part because it does not want to stay in there.

Tried it every which way lol

It looks like the edge facing your camera should press into the lip in the dishwasher.

I would not trust 3rd party/aftermarket formed gaskets. Unless they used the original tooling it’s not going to be right.

You ain't wrong. I hate dishwashers.
