Sass of Nine is the best reason to watch Voyager.

For all the sex appeal she was supposed to add to the show, she really is an extraordinary actress and a fascinating character.

The episode where she shifts between all the species the Borg have assimilated shows her exceptional range.

Or the episode where the doctor was uploaded into her implants and took control of her body.

Jeri Ryan did an amazing job of impersonating Robert Picardo's mannerisms.

That's a common device in Sci-Fi; they did it on SG-1, they did it on Farscape, and it's always a great excuse to show off the raw acting talent of the cast.

Janet on The Good Place did a fantastic job too.

Yes! Great example and another of my favorite episodes that show her talent.

I really need to go back and watch Voyager.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Coincidentally I just started to do so last night. Looking forward to these episodes.

What episode is that? I don't remember that premise at all

S5E7: Infinite Regress.

Here’s a clip.

Damn. Very impressive. Thanks for that!

I'm not sure what's stranger in an enlightened future.

People still being shamed for having sex for pleasure, or people still being ashamed of having sex for pleasure.

If sci-fi tends to agree on anything, and it's right, it's that our religiously based, puritanical sexual hangups are hilariously stupid vestiges of ignorant times.

I always assumed the lower rank, younger crew on Star Trek fuck like rabbits with abandon on their off hours, with rank appropriate and/or holo partners. They're isolated co-ed ships how could they not? Might as well just surrender to the borg if you're ashamed of pleasure.

The Warp core isn't the only thing that needs to have its pressure regularly relieved to operate at peak efficiency.

What's strangest to me is that they still haven't figured out soundproofing. You'd think isolating compartments on a space vessel would be given higher importance on one of the most advanced ships in the fleet.

There was an episode of this on Lower Decks where Boimler got put in a room next to the HoloDecks

I don't think it's prudish of me to not want to hear people grunting and ham blasting.

So.. no one was being shamed in the context of that scene though?

Seven was "researching" - B'Elanna was confronting her for spying. And Seven was being her usual blunt socially naive self.

Full context from the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0o3ADTJVlo&ab_channel=MyRandomUploads

Edit: Just to be clear - I agree with your point about shaming, I just don't understand the relation to this which was meant as more of a joke in the context of the situation.

Privacy and secrecy aren't the same thing.

What I do on the toilet isn't a secret. I still don't want to find out you know any specific details.

Shining a blacklight around in the Holodeck would be illuminating.

To appeal to a wider/older audience I assume.

“Omg this show is immoral because they fuck!”

In the future, people will get off to string quartet concerts by their peers!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Riker is playing the trombone again, omg sploosh

Is sound proofing really still this bad in the distant future?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago

I think it is excellent, but the implication is that it's still not enough.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago

Who puts room in between two holodecks?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago

Isn't she Klingon? Don't they fuck super aggro and loud? Designers may not have been prepared for the fuck-tensity

She really sold that half-klingon side a little too well there, huh? lol
