In D3 we got exclusive mats from disenchanting them, but so far I've found no use for common and magic items in D4. Any ideas?

I have no idea. Even worse: i cant filter them so that i dont see them. Just cluttering my screen.

Hopefully there will be a use case in later seasons. I think I read somewhere that blue items might roll fewer but higher stats, though I don't know if that's the case.

Salvage, gold, and transmog!

I think this guy has it, then again I barely pick up blues.

Huh, coming from D3 as well I was skipping the whites tbh but still picked the blue items. I guess I'll start picking only rares and up from now on. Thanks!

I didn’t realize that you could disenchant them for exclusive materials. That’s actually a pretty good idea, though I’d like there to be more than just that with D4. Kind of weird that whites and blues drop at all after the first few levels if they don’t have a gameplay mechanic or purpose.

Wait... what do you mean disenchant them?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I used that term in a comment, but I meant salvage the item.

Yup. Just realizing that the term is actually “salvage” but that is what I meant too. 🙃

It's sad and annoying because they talked about giving them a purpose during development but I wonder what came off it.

Maybe to make it feel more special when an actually useful item drops?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I think that's a key purpose. Plus, it's just fun when enemies/chests/etc are loot pinatas!

Honestly, I'm just happy we don't have all the other rarities that come with most RPGs.

Greys, Whites, Greens, Blues, Purples, etc, etc, etc. At least Diablo is simplified to where you just are looking for Rare or Legendary.

I suspect that there used be an upgrade rarity option like D3, which you can use to upgrade common to magic and magic to rare, which will then add more lines to them, but it might have been scrapped, like the crafting option. Since the devs did say at one point that even magic items could be useful during the development.
