Just for reference, La Verità isn't what you would call "a rag" because that would be disrespectful towards rags.

La verità, the newspaper he's referencing, is really the worst of the worst, they pick up any conspiracy and even make up their own just to stir up rage, it should never be taken as a serious source for anything.
As dumb as footballers are, engaging with La Verità is dumb even by their standards.

This "newspaper" La Verità, which literally means The Truth is easily the worst one in Italy, not worth even as toilet paper. A conspiracy filled, far-right leaning, pro-Russia, anti-vax, and all the other classical amenities, constantly making stuff up.
I disagree with whom said they shouldn't be engaged. They are publicly defaming him, being called clowns is the minimum they deserve.
