Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! โœˆ๏ธ

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

I'm interested in knowing what you guys are using to access this community, whether or not it's via mobile phone or via laptop or desktop.

If accessing via a laptop or a desktop, what is your OS? Windows, MacOS, or Linux? And if Linux, what distro are you using?

If accessing via a mobile device, you can add in some details about the app you are using or if you're using it via a mobile browser.

Of course, you guys can add more details.

Just to provide a bit of a background behind the question: I've had this preconception that the ones here are among the more technologically-inclined (whatever that means), and thus, I'm curious about the make-up of devices and software used to access and interact with this community.

UPDATE:

As promised, here's a link to the compiled data (with some rudimentary stats). I will be adding more onto them this weekend (if more replies come in).

First of all, thank you to all who've responded. While my preconceptions haven't been shattered, I'm also pleasantly surprised to find out non-techies, refugees from Reddit, who have jumped in to the Threadiverse despite it all. I dunno if that's indicative of the dumpster fire that is Reddit right now, or the tenacity of those who've sought refuge here. Maybe both.

I will be expanding on my thoughts, and others, on a separate reply.

So far... Poorly.

Using a laptop. I've since deleted reddit apps on my phone, and I am waiting for sync to come up with their lemmy alternative.

I'm still holding on to my reddit account to get a list of all the subs i've subscribed to, and intend to archive and delete everything once I'm certain there's a good alternative to reddit, be it Lemmy, or something else.

Si u/Sped supot.

Using kbin as it was the first instance I signed up for. The Fediverse concept blew my mind when I first heard of it a couple of days ago. I had heard of Mastodon before but since I was barely using Twitter anymore, I didn't feel the need to sign up. So this was my real introduction into the federation concept.

On desktop: Firefox with Tampermonkey and Stylus add-ons. Using this script for Tampermonkey, and this stylesheet for Stylus.

On mobile: Firefox with Tampermonkey (Stylus isn't available on mobile yet). Using the script on I use on desktop, but also this one.

Yes, techie. Completed an IT-related course.

I'm not in the Philippines but found this post on All. I'm using the /kbin PWA icon on my phone mostly. Looks like this.

@megane_kun

I stumbled in here from Reddit. I feel like a chimp trying to tune a radio, but everyone has been nice so far and there are stories on my home page to read, so I'm pretty content at the moment. I'm using the kbin app on a Samsung s10p

Accessing it via the Web on my desktop and then on the web app on my iPhone (bookmarked the site on Safari, which turns it into a basic app). I have Mlem and Memmy on my iPhone as well, but both are pretty bare bones at the moment and missing a lot of features. So I often find myself on the bookmarked-to-my-homescreen web app.

Like reddit, mobile is the primary place where I am accessing Lemmy, so I am REALLY hoping one of the existing apps becomes fully featured soon or Christian Selig develops an app like Apollo for Lemmy. I miss the Apollo app more than I miss Reddit. In terms of community and content, Lemmy seems promising as a "reddit replacement" but we really need some good mobile apps. That's what has helped Mastodon take off IMO.

On mobile, Jerboa. I am not tech savvy and lemmy.world and the other instances are still confusing to me. But I want to ditch reddit for good so I'll cope.
