Is it possible to actually run an automation by itself? Right now I got one set up that adds a reminder upon receiving a certain kind of email. But when I get the email I still have to click it to run the automation.

Depending on the type of trigger of the automation. Some require additional clicking, some don’t. Iirc, beacon activated automations don’t need it while location activated automations do— which defeats the purpose of an “automation”. But that’s Apple sandboxing things.

Some automations allow you to turn this off: the "Time of day" automation has a "Ask before running" toggle you can turn off. The email one sadly does not, so no, not possible.
