May I interest you in SoulSeek? Best way to get those sweet, pure FLAC files (or high quality MP3s).

How does SoulSeek compare to torrents? From my quick search, it seems that SoulSeek is proprietary software, correct?

Better, in my opinion. Torrenting is annoying when it comes to music, I find. Soulseek is so easy in terms of searching for individual songs, albums, etc. and specifying things like bitrate and so on. It's proprietary but I've yet to see an open-source equivalent that comes even remotely close to it.

Nicotine+ is a free and open source alternative to the official client.

Lol this is going to sound ridiculous but as someone who is trying to quit smoking and constantly failing, I know for a fact that using a program called Nicotine would 100% water the seeds of addiction in my brain.

Never smoked but I despite the name and consider it a deal breaker

It is a weird choice of name, isn't it?!

so tempting to release a product called ‘nicotine’ and wait for the patches. then i would have a reason to only apply one patch a day. otherwise, i’m going against medical advise.

A quick look at tosdr and exodus privacy and .. I guess if you create a separate account for youtube music and maybe use it only on the web browser. Tidal has more trackers than YT music

Ah, that's a shame. Thanks!

The best solution regarding privacy would be to own the hi-fi files directly and then stream them to your devices using software you self host like jellyfin or something.
