It's a no-brainer. I was an early addict of Usenet, and never found the same utility and community when everyone left for the bright shiny corporate sites (and usenet became harder and harder to access since it wasn't making any billionaires richer.) The Fediverse is what is needed to take the internet back. I just feel bad that it took me so long to start. I joined Mastodon in January and am a thousand times more active there than I ever was at the birdsite, because my account is growing and morphing to fit MY needs. The same will happen with Lemmy and Kbin, and I hope with peertube and all the others. I keep saying it...the Fediverse is what we should have been doing all along, rather than tolerating the billionaires because it was "convenient".

Yes. 13 year former reddit user. Haven't been on reddit for about two weeks.

Also, fyi, there will be a response bias that i suspect will favor those who think they will stay on lemmy in this poll.

yes

but why not make a stawpoll out of it?

I like it here and I don't like it anywhere else.

I'm staying here on Lemmy, this platform seems like it has much more promise than Reddit and centralized platforms like Reddit.

Don't get me wrong platforms like squabbles are cool and all but in the end they're not federated and that means they're going to end up meeting very similar if not the same fate as Reddit itself is meeting right now.

Yes, after Boost for reddit stops working.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I will stay, just have to figure out more how it actually works.

Probably. It would be nice to be able to select a more compact view - it feels like there's a lot of wasted screen real estate with the current look.

It's a little up in the air for me at the moment. I just discovered that all of our upvotes and downvotes aren't private. It's not what I'm used to at Reddit.

I can see pros and cons to this, so it will be an interesting change for sure.

Once my reddit app stops working I won't have a choice but to find a new home. Subreddits are burning in ways that can't be easily reversed and will take years to naturally grow back.

As long as I can find news and memes, I will stay here.

So far, so good. Keep the bigotry and fascists in check and I'll stick around. I tried to make a community (a page for my band) just now and it just loads and loads when I hit submit. Anyone else had that problem? I turned off all my ad blockers. The issue persists.

edit: I was able to make a community today. Check out !jambands if you're into that kind of thing! :)

edit2: 12/13/23 Lemmy has lots of bigots and incels now.

edit3: 2/14/24 Lemmy now seems to have bigot and incels mods running many "front page" communities.

I'm still on the fence. I've been having a lot of issues with lemmy after creating an account

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Totally understandable. What issues have you been facing? For me, the web sockets issue with the feed has kept me to browsing primarily on mobile. Once that is fixed I should be fine.

Is there a way to access lemmy on mobile?

I plan on it if more people come over and the communities grow. So far I have been checking the sub-Reddits I am subscribed to for info about them migrating to Lemmy

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes, even more likely if I find a good iOS app for Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Mlem/Memmy app. Very early stages of development, but looking really promosing. I have both, can't decide which one will end up being the daily driver yet. But how cool would it be if Apollo was ported over?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've switched to Kbin.

Yes, I hope I can use it instead of reddit altogether

@fm0d @vreraan Haha, this was basically my journey over to #Linux 😂 And frankly, it was also my journey over to the #Fediverse as a whole! One day I just decided that enough was enough, and I had to practice what I preached.

So here I am, Linux, Fediverse and all!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes. I'm still lost but I'm here to stay...
