Flair checks out. I don’t really think using wins as a QB stat to knock Fields is needed. Just looking at his passing stats is good enough alone for that….

Look at lamars mvp season. Fewer passing yards than that, and iirc, fewer rushing yards .
If not it's nearly identical as far as yardage.
And yeah, fields is definitely not without his faults. That's sack rate is an issue as is the fumbling.
On the plus side, y’all are kind of set for the future.

I don't really subscribe to QB wins unless it's over a 4 yr span or longer but damn..that's a shocking stat. Just wow.
I think they have their eyes on Caleb Williams and will trade Fields to the Falcons next summer.
There is no span of time that it is a useful stat in a vacuum.

You'd think fans of a franchise that shipped out a HOF QB for Jordan Love would have enough to worry about.
Feel like this is a bit of a stretch considering 3 of the wins you’re listing are by Andy Dalton who was named the starter in 2021. I wouldn’t count him as a true backup - he was legit better than Rookie Fields.
In 2022-2023, it would be 2-4 vs 4-17; still awful but doesn’t show that the backups are winning much more.
It's been remarkable how many great college qbs Ohio State churns out that end up being massive duds in the nfl, stroud not counting since he's a rookie

I feel really sorry for Justin Fields. I feel like the organization that coaching staff don’t know how to really utilize his strengths.

Im not sure BAL would take him as a backup. Lamar looked better throwing to no receivers early on than Fields ever has.

Came here to make this point. Whereas Fields' wins, rare as they may be, came against a few teams who ended up with winning records. He probably would have won the 6 games his backup won. Maybe even one more.
Which is still awful.

Even a lot of Bears fans back this. Oh, the Bears would have ruined Mahomes. That nonsense is such a slap in the face of great QBs. The fact is, the Bears have just been really bad at drafting QBs and haven't been aggressive in drafts with regard to the position. Before Trubisky and Fields, the most recent first round QB the Bears drafted was Rex Grossman in 2003.
You haters need to stop. Justin Fields just needs a little bit of help from the o-line and a coach that is going to make use of his talents and he will prove you all wrong.

Fields is likely a bust but honestly this is a coaching problem more than a QB problem. We clown the Bears for never having "the guy" at QB, but the coaches that have cycled through Halas Hall are basically all memes in their own right.
Owners need to go.
I feel like Fields is far from a bust. Statistically, he's become a mid-tier QB this season, and I think that's perfectly fine.
Half of the teams in the league would have an upgrade with him at QB and he's a clear #2 (behind only Trevor Lawrence) coming out the largest QB draft class in history. He doesn't need to be a locked-in top 5 to not be a "bust".
Last year we had 5 games in a row, averaging 30 points for that stretch, but went 1-4 because of the defense - yet he gets the blame, when he was the clear reason we were even in those games.
Obviously, I'm still in on him, and I feel like the horrible coaching and playcalling is playing a part in him not taking the gigantic leap many expected in the offseason. You see the same behavioral issues and habits (only worse) with Bagent, and it becomes clear that our entire QB room is suffering from the way they are coached.

Opponent PPG for Fields:
2023: 31.4
2022: 25.2
2021: 25.1 (technically he was the backup)
In the last full NFL season, 25.1 would be good for 28th worst defense, 31.4 would be 4 points worse than the worst defense.
Opponent PPG for backups:
2023: 19.75
2022: 31 (one game, L)
2021: 22.2 (Dalton technically the starter)
In the last full NFL season, 22.2 would be good for the 18th worst defense. 19.75 would be 7th.
There’s more context to this than just the defense has been bad and is giving up 31 ppg this season. Fields is responsible for what, 3 touchdowns himself from turnover returns? What about the 3 and outs or his other turnovers too? Backups are usually asked to play a much safer game and try not to do too much. Which worked against the Raiders and barely worked last night. It does really help the defense though.
As prognosticators have been telling us for the past couple of years, Fields as good if not better than Hurts. The data has been tallied up and he has a clear advantage....in losses.

Is there any precedent to a QB that runs so well (but wasn't a successful QB) transitioning to being a RB? Seems like if he doesn't stick in the league as a QB, he could excel as an RB and keep the defense guessing with gadget plays. And no, I haven't watched enough of Fields to be judging him as a QB, just asking a more general question if this has happened before.

Last 17 games 3100 passing 1200 rushing 35 total tds 12 ints and a lot of fumbles.
