Pretty cool move to actually not just ditch Freenode and move to libera.chat, but upgrade to xmpp and only bridge back to libera.chat.

I wonder how XMPP compares to Jami

Those two are not directly comparable, as XMPP is a server federation, while Jami is client p2p. Both have their pro and cons, but IMHO XMPP is the more practical solution for text chat.
