It kinda bothers me that communities are formatted like that instead of their actual http URL. When out of context, this is converted into a mailto: link, whereas using the http URL would result in a link I can click to actually get to that community.

This is hilarious. The US does the exact same thing; it uses debt diplomacy to make developing nations more dependent on the US.
His view is perfect for appliances, or devices where you don't want the user in control (e.g.: kiosk machines, steam decks, corporate laptops, supermarket checkouts).
But it's terrible for the linux machines that we love to tinker with, machines for developers of OS tools and alike.
I'm a bit confused as to how federation works.
I have an account here, and see a community I want to join in another instance... but I the login option only lets me log in with an account on that instance.
Is participating in communities cross-instance not possible yet?
