I was broadly on OOP's side in the first half. Part of a parent's role is to teach their children right from wrong so I don't think some meddling is overstepping. The particular punishments of grounding and forbidding going on the trip are a little childish though. In any case she really lost me in the comments.

Based on their comment saying it was impossible, I'm guessing they didn't even investigate, just assumed that the pain must have been something else if the root/nerves were gone
Very unlikely OOP happened to overhear the first and only time John made a joke like this at her expense and he doesn't see it as a big deal given his reaction. Not worth hanging around.
I'm really confused about the financials here. Half the time it seems like OOP has the money but wants to keep it for savings and half the time it seems like he literally doesn't have the money. But neither scenario makes sense.
If OOP has the money, he should be using some of it to pay towards these student loans he keeps mentioning.
If OOP doesn't have the money, what are we even talking about this for?? Tell the family you can't give money you don't have!
Yeah exactly, it's not like websites turned out to be totally useless or anything: the bubble was that tons people were making websites for everything in the hopes that they would get investment and maybe figure out a purpose down the line if they felt like it. Values got inflated and then popped. Clearly though we still use websites for lots of things because they are a good way to exchange information and interact with users.
The AI bubble is the same. It's garnering huge investment at the moment, its value is inflated, and eventually the market will pop. That doesn't mean we won't be using generative AI in the future or that it doesn't have value at all. Some companies will survive, the sector will start to grow again more gradually and our fridges will have AI in them that does something actually useful.
Is OOP a super seller or something? Such vivid and specific descriptions of smells
Maybe next time arrange something that people would mutually like to do rather than a vanity celebration for something you should've grown out of twenty years earlier.
Lol wtf is up with this commenter? Going out to a restaurant for your birthday is the most normal thing in the world.
Now for their responses / explanations
None of these explain why they couldn't rsvp tentative. They sound like bullshit
Just want to highlight this comment
Sounds like he's the one with a spine issue, not her.

I think OOP is giving into this guy a little too much but she is 100% correct that every nice thing he does is preparation for extortion down the line.
Send dad, communicate only through the app, block him everywhere else.
Not that this story is true, but I got confused at this point and the comments weren't enlightening
So all us kids took tests, my sisters didn’t want me to be left out. I mean, I had the test as a baby, no true surprises.
4 out of 5 kids matched.
The one that didn’t?
Me.
If you had the test as a baby why is this scandal only coming out now? Mom faked the results?
I used to think like this, but then I discovered the sequel song which would be utterly unnecessary if the devil actually won the first time. Technically the song is by a different artist, but Charlie Daniels played on the track and I'm going to count that as canon.
