I think the conclusion that people hate chronological feeds is not a very strong conclusion. People also hate some algorithmic feeds, especially when it’s full of crap and there is no chronology anymore. An ideal situation would be if you could choose both and also if you could influence the algorithm.

I enjoy editing my hometown and have been doing it for about twelve years. But my town is already pretty complete, so I check in every six months or so to change minor details like shops or adding a new bench in the park. In total I'm not even at 200 edits, but I always enjoy seeing those edits back in major tools that use OSM.

Yesilgöz en de VVD lijken, gezien deze lezing en de reden van de val van het kabinet, te willen inzetten op het thema asielzoekers en het profiel van Yesilgöz als 'crimefighter'. Ik vraag me echter af of dat wel de thema's zijn waar de kiezer warm van wordt. Zijn dat echt nu de grootste thema's? Zelf denk ik van niet. Klimaatcrisis, stikstofcrisis, toeslagen, Groningen, gebrek aan vertrouwen in de politiek, etc. etc., er zijn volgens mij zoveel andere thema's die de mensen volgens mij op dit moment belangrijker vinden, dat het klassieke VVD thema niet een thema is waarmee Yesilgöz de verkiezingen gaat winnen. Ik kan me vergissen, natuurlijk, maar het voelt niet alsof ze hiermee de harten van Nederlanders gaat winnen. Wel het VVD smaldeel, maar je gaat er geen zwevers mee naar de VVD halen. Ook denk ik dat Nederland een beetje VVD-moe is, maar dat kan ook wel mijn eigen gevoel zijn. Als Omtzigt, Timmermans, of een andere aansprekende kandidaat gaat meedoen, dan kan de VVD weleens een grote verkiezingsnederlaag tegemoet gaan.

Maar als BBB de grootste wordt, wie dan wel? Pieter Omtzigt, als die ja zegt, dan krijgt de BBB 50 zetels. Als Omtzigt het niet doet, moet BBB wel duidelijk maken welke premierskandidaat ze voor ogen hebben. Want als het een of andere afgedankte CDA'er wordt, zoals bij de provincies, dan acht ik de kansen van BBB een stuk kleiner.

Thank you for your thoughts. I would say that federated means decentralized in the first place. But to me it is also important that everybody can start an instance, users can switch from instance and you need to be able to control whith whom you connect. That means no forced algorithm. Being able to connect to other types of social media via something like activitypub is also high on my list. I disagree that the fediverse needs to be not-for-profit by definition. Bluesky is a for profit company and it has it’s own activitypub-like protocol. Is it part of the fediverse or not? Personally I prefer the not-for-profit fediverse and donate to several small instances monthly. I enjoy these communities that are not driven by profit, but by idealism.

Just bought Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov. Intend to read it this summer. I read about it in a review and was fascinated by the plot. Here’s the Wikipedia plot description:
