Oh that's nice. I've used a script for nested desktop for years now, but I completely missed that they added an official app for launching it.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Specs Make Me Optimistic For Steam Deck Playability - Steam Deck HQ

Seems like there's hope.

Personally I'm hoping to see some better sales on the first Spider-Man game once 2 comes out. Right now the lowest I think it goes is about $30, but judging from God of War sales after Ragnarok released, I think that will come down to $15-20 after Spiderman 2 comes out.

It's debatable whether this belongs in the Steam Deck community, but these are all high profile games, and having to login with additional online accounts is a significant barrier to play on the Deck.

The (fps) rich get richer while the (fps) poor are left behind, the true tragedy of our times.

The plugin isn't available on the plugin store yet, and has to be downloaded manually from the github.

Also general reminder that framegen isn't recommended to be used under 60fps according to AMD. It will work, but you can get really bad input lag. It'll depend on your own tolerance for input lag and the type of game for whether this will be a viable option for you.

Big if true

I had some issues with Decky recorder, but that was it personally.

The OLED deck in general just gets so much better battery life than the LCD. Getting 2.5 hours instead of 1.5 hours on a demanding game is a huge increase.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Those increases are only for running games through wine. If you're running your windows games through proton (which is the default for the deck) you'll see a minimal performance increase, if any. It should improve compatibility for games though.

You can check battery health in desktop mode, by clicking on the battery.

I've had my OLED deck for a little over a year now, and it's still reporting 100% battery health.

The article includes a table showing games with some pretty major fps gains, but those are mostly just for wine. Using Proton there will be minimum fps gains, but it should improve compatibility.

The people doing the revival have been working to keep the original pebbles working for years now. I think they're really passionate about the watch, and that gives me hope for the revival.

The former pebble employees at Google worked hard to get the OS open source, so I think it's fair to assume they were hoping for this outcome. And the repebble team (who are the ones"bringing it back") have been working on providing support and keeping the original pebble watches going for years now.

I actually fully agree with the article on all of those points. I generally stopped buying switch games after I got the deck, titles like TotK sit barely played on my switch because I couldn't pull myself away from the Deck for long enough to play it.

Part of it is size, the switch is really uncomfortable in my hands, but the biggest reason is I share the switch with my kids, where the deck is exclusively my device.

As for the sleep resume feature, it's literally the biggest reason I play on a switch/deck over my desktop PC. Having my own dedicated game system that offers the option to instantly stop or start a game session is the killer feature that has let me play games again. The switch stopped being a viable option for that once I had to share it with my kids, because I would put a game to sleep, and they would close it to launch their own game.

This new Decky plugin lets you have a floating web view for watching Netflix and other video sites while you play.

Is this completely unnecessary? Probably, but some very low-intensity games will probably benefit from it. Being able to watch subway surfers while playing should also increase it's appeal to Gen Z.

Because it gets a negative response? Regardless of whether they think it has a valid place as an art form, if they know it will get a negative response they probably won't want to share it.

Guy modded his steam deck be as small as possible, with the only intended use to be to play with an external controller and AR glasses.

Decky Power Tools already offers this, and I believe there's a desktop setting for it as well. Still very nice to have though.

New launchers are for:

  • Boosteroid Cloud Gaming
  • Stim.io
  • Venge.io
  • Rocketcrab.com
  • WatchParty.me

Basically for games that only support DLSS, it's long been possible to replace the DLSS files to force the game to use FSR 2/3 instead. It's a pretty common mod available for many games on Nexus mods.

Sometimes it works well, other times you get weird blurring or other effects.

This is an interesting-development deck plugin that will greatly simplify the installation of these mods to games, letting us benefit from FSR upscaling and frame gen in DLSS only titles.
