I think the title, opening sentence and paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 & 8 all show that she's talking mostly about love in the sense of support and identify with.

Only paragraph 4 talks about the impossiblity of a personal connection with a nation and the next paragraph makes it clear that it's a side point.

It's an imprecise and out-of-place side point that I don't agree with, but it's not proof of her secret support of authoritarianism.

There's no contradiction or double standard here.

Love and hate are usually understood to include support/oppose in their meaning. It's cringey to say you "love" any nation, because they will never care for your wellbeing. It's especially unacceptable to support violent imperial states.

That doesn't preclude opposing or hating certain states, or having indifference to states that you don't feel strongly impacted by.

they make the lives of their citizens better and better and avoid unnecessary wars

That's an oversimplification of the truth, not defending authoritarianism. It's not denying or minimizing China's actions in Xinjiang or '89. It's not praising the censorship or arbitrary detention.

I skimmed through the ~50 articles published this year and they were all anti imperialist pieces focused on the US & Israel. Not defending authoritarianism.

I think your brain is returning a false tankie positive. This is an article against supporting imperial states as part of your identity.

It's not musk's far right coup. It's a fascist coup that musk is only one part of.

All day. Usually getting worse over the course of the day. Even a relatively mild hangover in the morning would be killing me by early evening.

Nothing helps it either. I've always eaten before drinking. Staying on top of hydrating while and after drinking has no noticable effect.

He's going to investigate and find that human trafficking is very profitable.

Don't be ridiculous, we're not all about to lose our jobs.

That would be way too many protestors to kill.

They'll do it far more slowly, or wait until the ai killbot factories are scaled up.

Hexbear was one of the earliest servers that is now part of the fediverse. It was started after chapo trap house was banned from Reddit.

Users there realized the danger of the rich being able to shut down online leftist spaces well before the first waves of reddit exodus.

They do not put up with the slightest whiff of transphobic bullshit and moderate & ban that crap swiftly.

You may hear some weird takes on the US's global adversaries, but you won't have to put up with weird takes on the US.

Hate speech is intended to encourage violence and dehumanize others. Censoring the word helps build the social taboo that discourages the use of hate speech and helps isolate people who insist on using it.

Adults take responsibility for the effect their words and actions have on the world.

Hate speech is censored to avoid normalizing language intended to encourage violence against the disempowered.

I've been seeing the exact same posts, in the same order, with almost no change in up/downvotes. It's been like this for at least 6 hours.

Did everyone agree to take an internet break and not tell me or is something not working correctly?

Frequently but not always I'll get an error page when I try to upvote or boost. Sometimes repeatedly, sometimes just once then it works fine, sometimes it stops when I reload the page.

Is it something to do with federating upvotes? I got the same thing on kbin but when it happened there i'd often need to re-login to my account.

Chinuk Wawa, also called Chinook Trade Jargon, is an incredibly simple language with like ~1000 words and basically no grammar. It's a pidgin of several native languages with some english and french influence.

The language was spoken by settler and native alike, until the railroad arrived and English overwhelmed it.

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde built a very nice app to help learn this very important part of our region's heritage.

A survey of 600 likely general election voters in Michigan, released late Thursday by WDIV Local 4/Detroit News, found that zero African American respondents said that they supported Trump, while 82.1 percent said they supported Vice President Kamala Harris.
