Yeah politics is why I only lurked on Reddit and never contributed. You want an echo chamber? Fine, I'll come here for r/linux troubleshooting, but fuck everything else. Hoping the problematic Lemmy instances root themselves out once I start my instance.

I've been tracking the Fediverse loosely since stumbling into StatusNet and OStatus in 2011. To see the fediverse alive and well after being away for so long makes me very happy, though I don't share the same political opinions as many of the people here.

That said, I'd argue there needs to be a way to spin up PeerTube and educate the masses on how to do that instead of starting a YouTube channel.

Using a friend's instance now, but plan to create my own instance here soon as well. Excited to see the reddit influx, I've been waiting for over 10 years to see something like this happen, tracking federation since StatusNet

I really do think a lot of people miss the point of federation. I just read an article where the author tried to justify "fediverse is dead because child predators use it." By that logic you'd better cancel your Internet and the rest of your utilities, because they also use those too.

Most federated atuff can be made disposable. I'd recommend most people not directly running a server just stay anonymous :/
