It means that is your default feed that loads when you open the app. You can change your default by tapping the vertical ellipses next to each feed.

My Clarity has a compressor as well. I've had to use it a few times and it is very convenient.

The red icon means there are comments and black means there are no comments yet

I'm also using Connect. I've got it looking pretty similar to RiF and it has some nice features. Plus, the developer is very active and is constantly pushing out updates and adding new features.
