I grew up working class with parents on welfare living in government housing. I did, in-fact, actually have to leave my couch in order to improve my living conditions and am acutely aware of the consequences of rising rent, rising energy costs, stagnant wages, and high food prices.

Most of us don't get the choice to be full time internet activists unfortunately.

A blockade doesn't work if you can't defend it. They can do whatever they want but actions have consequences.

nobody in America cares about the non-Palestinian Middle East enough for “some” to rally behind him just because he bombed some Yemenis

Your average American does care about the economy and price of common items, oil, etc, and Houthis bombing the most important trade route in the world directly effects that.

By the time of the Famine, Scottish plantations had been in Ireland for almost 300 years. I'm not sure cherry picking one incident in the long lineage of exploitation over Ireland excuses anyone to be honest. Even after the famine, stuff like Black & Tans having notorious Scottish units and even in the modern day you can point to remaining tensions between ulster-scot protestants and Irish catholics.

From whom were they fleeing? Yes, it is wrong to excuse Scotland from playing an active role in colonising Ireland. That should be obvious

Commoners everywhere are victims of the elite. That's not unique to England nor does it excuse Scotland.

Scotland is British.

Grouping Scotland and Ireland like that has always been weird to me. Scotland played a very active role in colonisation, were over represented in Colonial administrations, and themselves helped colonise Ireland (hence Ulster Scots, Scots-Irish).

Boost for Lemmy does this.

Sync is broken in this regard, it doesn't permanently hide posts anymore.

On Reddit, Reddit would randomly pick 50/100 communities from which it fills your home feed. Your other subscriptions do not matter until Reddit decides to refresh the list of subs its pulling from.

In theory, if you're subscribed to a bunch of inactive subreddits, your home feed is potentially being held back by these (since, as opposed to Reddit grabbing posts from 50 active communities, it's only grabbing posts from - say - 30 active communities with the remaining 20 being inactive and taking up the spot of your other active subscriptions).

On Lemmy, is there any downside to retaining subscriptions to inactive communities?
