Is it better to not let it burn or clear out fuel, in the long run?

[–] Scolding7300@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I thought it best to let some burn in a controlled matter so in a couple of years it'll become less of a hazard

[–] Scolding7300@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I still doubt anything will convince ppl to leave fb at this point, with their long history of breaking users trust

Idk if it'll save any money, costs pennies to manufacture

The article seems to focus on the seeding part, i.e. distribution, but not the downloading part. Isn't downloading part illegal too? Or did they buy all those books?

Optery advertises themselves as a privacy oriented service that helps you remove data from data brokers.

In the policy they mention they send your profile data to Advertising Partners with the purpose of

• Providing, Customizing and Improving the Services • Marketing the Services

Isn't this almost opposite of the whole purpose of their service? Or am I reading this wrong and this is just because they have to send your data to the brokers to process deletions?

Are there recommended alternatives?

P.S. I reached out to them about this but they haven't gotten back to me yet

Closed my account and left feedback. They replied: Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your account cancellation. We acknowledge your decision to delete your account and want to address any concerns you have raised.

We understand your questions about privacy, and we want to reassure you that Optery is committed to protecting your personal information. Our core mission is to remove your data from data broker sites, not to exploit or misuse it. Here’s how we prioritize your privacy:

  1. We do not sell your personal data. Optery has no involvement with companies that post or sell personal information online. Our sole purpose is to help remove your personal information from people search sites and data brokers. If you see your information online, it is unrelated to Optery's operations.

  2. Google Analytics and Advertising. While our privacy policy mentions advertising partnerships, this typically involves anonymized or aggregated data, not personal details. We use tools like Google Analytics to analyze website traffic and improve user experience. Rest assured, personal information is not stored in these tools. Google uses collected data for web analytics, and while this may influence ad targeting, it is not tied to any personal data.

We also encourage you to explore Google’s privacy practices: Google Analytics Privacy Safeguards.

We aim to follow a privacy-first model, taking inspiration from companies like Proton. Your feedback is invaluable, as it helps us ensure we align with the trust our customers place in us.

Transparency and user trust are at the heart of everything we do. If you have more questions or need further clarification about our privacy practices, feel free to reach out.

I can technically block every meme community I see, but was wondering if there's a way to filter those out.

Just want to sometimes see some news or discussions without endlessly scrolling memes.

Thanks!

NewPipe, GrayJay, Invidious, all are unable t bypass an age restricted video. Tried the embedded trick, and also through a script extension with the bypass script on github. Non worked, any idea how to bypass without logging in?

E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPi-Xc5MF1I

Noticed two things recently: 1. Watching videos even at 1080p would sometimes takes dozens of seconds to buffer a few video sexonds. 2. The video quality is always on auto if you experience buffering, mid video all of a sudden the video gets pixelated no matter how many times I tell it to load X quality.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Their support haven't gotten back to me.

As we rushed into the Web 2 era, privacy was left behind. There was a naive view that users could consent to something that was impossible to understand. The result was tracking and monitoring of every activity.

I chatted to Brendan Eich, the creator of JavaScript, Co-Founder of Brave, and the Co-founder of Mozilla. We talk about how the privacy landscape evolved on the internet, and the future of our technology-driven world.

We need more tools that make it possible to not only maintain privacy, but to still have a user-friendly experience at the same time. We, as users, need to fight back and demand it.

Want to get the DLC and start over but I'm a little afraid to sink in too many hours since there's always improvements to be made

Edit: spelling

Want to share a link to a recent interview with Brave's co founder and which I found interesting. Is that something that fits this group or better posted elsewhere?

Proton has been uploading short 1.5 minute videos on their channel, and I feel like they lack substance and don't go over any of the topics meaningfully. Do you see this format resonating with the public? Should they be making more in-depth videos?

I'm guessing the demographic that follows Naomi Brockwell TV, for example, doesn't intersect much with the ones that might watch those shorts
