I figure if I ever want it digital the technology will/is advanced enough now to just scan and upload the pages and convert it to readable text files

As other people said an MHL cable might work - if you had the debug setting to allow MHL cables to display to an external monitor

If you did not enable that setting your only option is repairing the screen

You well know all disposables should be phased out aswell. They may provide a place in the medical and food fields but we can come up with alternatives given time
