If something ceases to be profitable, it gets no attention from corporations.

Even something as simple as Deepseek replacing subscription services would tank these corporations who are banking on those fees.

How is this not already a thing? The pavement is not the street, don’t put your personal vehicle on it I mean is it that difficult?

I'm in Canada, and my municipality has one protected bike lane that is buffered by bollards and a curb.

Yet, I can't tell you how many times some douchebag with an oversized pickup truck will bypass those protections so that they can fit into the parking spot that runs beside this bike lane (while blocking the bike lane in doing so).

If laws and enforcement aren't working to deter this kind of behaviour, give pedestrians and cyclists a legally protected right to bump, scratch and/or smash the side of these vehicles in passing. And I'll leave this for your entertainment.

Good, I hope this is how the AI industry dies.

What firmware do you currently have? OnePlus said their latest Nord 4 update for EU/Global is CPH2663_15.0.0.401). If that's what you have, that's the latest update from Dec 30th.

As Canadians, we grew tired of the tariff battles with the US and unfair practices of other partners. In July 2018, we decided to do something about it, starting to compile a list of products and services available in Canada so you can rest easy knowing your dollars are having their maximum impact in the Canadian economy.

Just a quick FYI, I noticed quite a few listings are for products still made outside of the country, so tariffs would still apply.

In that sense, you may still be paying more and also benefiting an outside entity, too.

Just be aware of that caveat if you are truly looking for Made in Canada items.

I'm OK with that (but I'd still prefer MADE in Canada) because it still supports Canadian jobs.

Many others can be run on a variety of servers, with a variety of apps.

Yes,but smaller market share means less optimistic future, or not enough incentive to continue the project, or harder to convince someone to use it.

Sure, but most people these days are expected to have email, and signing up isn't any more complicated than that. It's not that hard.

Signing up isn't the hurdle... Convincing someone they should install a second app for messaging when nobody they know uses it would be a bigger challenge.

Google and Apple teaming up would effectively eliminate basic SMS, but that likely wouldn't solve issues like privacy or data ownership.

You send them the video in OP. Or try to send them literally any video via SMS.

Dude, I went on a mission to convince the people I know to move away from corporately owned email and to use a private provider. It was excrutitingly difficult, and I don't think a single person switched.

Family would constantly "not get it" and continued to email my old email address, too, like they thought this was a phase. lol. It was insane.

Personally, I find switching messenger providers to be more difficult than email, so I'm not hopeful that someone would convert without having some strong motivations first.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Name and shame so we can stop donating to them. If they aren't helping people in need, then they aren't a real food bank!

I mean, Signal (the messenger that Privacy Guides recommends) only works with Signal, right? And if I recall, it was difficult or not even possible to back up your texts from one device to another.

SMS, especially for anyone who isn't tech-savvy in the least, "just works" without any setup.

How do you convince people to move away from that?

I'm not saying we shouldn't, I'm saying it doesn't appeal to the majority of people.

Hey man, FYI, I swapped out the glass lens on mine just now, and the clarity I gained is significant!

The Drift lens kit was like $25 + shipping, and I didn't need anything but the glass. So, I measured mine, and found a replacement "watch lens glass" replacement... 19mm is what you want, flat glass (some are domed), and as close to 0.9mm as possible. The one I got was 0.8mm, and it fits perfectly. I paid like $11, just to get it quickly, but I can order a bulk pack for just a few dollars each.

Not that I've had to replace this before, but it had so many micro scratches from cleaning the lens when wet while riding, that I figured I should try. I was expecting some improvement, but it's like the contrast just got cranked up!

If you ever need to replace that lens, look for third-party glass!

And don't forget that when those apps eventually die, or the company behind them goes sour, you have to switch EVERYTHING again, and hope that everyone you know does, too.

This has NEVER been an issue with SMS. So for all the bad, it does one thing really well: convenience.

As much as I'd love to move to a secure message platform, this definitely falls into the "more trouble than it's worth" category, and that's disappointing.

I'm confused. Supporting who?

A pardoned domestic terrorist with a gun and a problem with law enforcement? What could go wrong?

Here's to hoping for another 1500 "justice by traffic stops."

Neuron’s rider survey for the year revealed just over 43 per cent of trips replaced someone taking a car. It also found nearly 17 per cent more trip resulted in riders buying some at a local business while the average spend per trip increased to $48, up from $37 last year.

Even though I haven't been a fan of how our shared e-scooter program has been implemented, it's hard to argue with the value it brings!

Side note: This is one of two providers who offer rental e-scooters; the other one, Bird, also offers e-bike rentals in the city.

Ignoring that my country doesn't allow Idaho Stops, or that my Provincial Government wants to actively kill cyclists by removing safe cycling infrastructure, I've always wondered if there's a reason why cyclists aren't allowed to simply ride through an intersection like the one in the photo.

I'm talking about the right side, where the bike lane could extend through the intersection without interfering with other vehicles, including those that are turning left.

This would not only keep those stops safer (clears the cyclist out of the intersection), but would just make sense from a transportation efficiency standpoint.

Is there something I'm missing, or do cyclists have to stop only because motorists would take a tantrum if they weren't required to?

Just a little PSA in case you guys get the same.

I'd usually hang up when I get political calls or surveys, but I made it very clear that Doug Ford will not get my support specifically because of Bill 212.

And if the NDP or Liberals call, I will thank them for opposing Bill 212.

Hey guys,

So... I've been using a small electric pump for my bikes and e-scooters over the last few years.

They are nice, but really aren't designed to be used as often as I do.

I'm a fan of low-tech gear, so I'm looking for a good quality floor pump that will last the next 20+ years. Obviously, it needs to be serviceable and have easily replaceable parts. And it needs to be accurate, for sure. LOL

I'm reading reviews from Wirecutter and various cycling sites, and they are all over the place with recommendations. I think a lot of their choices are driven by affiliate links, so there's that.

Does this unicorn exist?

There it is, folks, the Ford Government wants us dead.

I was never a hostile cyclist, but I guess I'll need to become one in order to fight against this war for personal safety.

Here's to hoping that DoFo and his cult get stuck in traffic for an eternity.

The tipster mentioned that the OnePlus 13 will debut globally with only two variants. You’re likely to see one variant with 16GB of RAM paired with 512GB of storage, while the other will feature 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That also means OnePlus wouldn’t launch the 24GB RAM variant of the OnePlus 13 in the global market.

If true, that would suck ass. I was 100% ready to get the 24GB version, and now I'm having second thoughts about even getting a OP13.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Seeing where this crash took place, I can only guess that the driver failed to stop and ran right through the cross-ride.

You guys make me so proud! Keep the pressure up!

Hey guys,

I'm looking to possibly upgrade the shifters on my 90s MTB from grip shifters to friction thumb shifters.

I'm currently eyeing the microSHIFT SL-M10 (https://www.microshift.com/models/sl-m10/), which is listed as being compatible with Shimano MTB 2/3×10.

Currently have a 7 cog cassette using an Alivio 7 speed derailleur. I also have a Deore LX M567 (8 speed) derailleur available, which would be a nice upgrade if compatible with the friction shifter.

Here are my questions:

  1. Would that 10 speed shifter work with lower speed derailleurs?

  2. What advantage, if any, would i get with a friction shifter listed for 8 or 9 speed derailleurs?

  3. On the SLM10 shifter, it's got an indexed mode, too. Would that work with 7 speed, and if so, are limits set by the derailleur or do these things have hard stops built into them?

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: I ended up spending a little (a lot...) more and getting a pair of Rivendell Silver2 shifters + thumbie mounts. Really nice quality and a beautiful ratcheting system. Loving friction shifters!

Forget the misleading bike use numbers, the low rate of people using their car is fascinating!

Ford makes it seem like 99% of the Toronto population are driving everywhere with their cars.

While traffic congestion makes it seem like everyone is driving, the reality is that fewer than 40% are in the areas that Ford wants bike lanes removed.

So why on earth do we allocate so many resources to car traffic?????

100% of the people living in the city suffer because of cars, parking lot space, noise pollution, air pollution, lack of safety for pedestrians, congestion causing all other forms of transportation to be slower.

Wouldn't it make more sense to give car traffic less priority, and other forms of transportation more? Between cycling and non-car users, car drivers are the minority, yet they demand every square inch to themselves!

Why do we continue to allow this entitlement?

So... I discovered that I can still get parts for my mid-90s MTB, which is the bike I use for everything hauling, winter, and off-road.

Initially, I was thinking of upgrading to more modern parts, but the components have been so good that I'd rather just refresh them.

I did order a "new old stock" crank/chainring, which I'm really excited about. Since I wax my chain, I don't see me ever having a need to replace it again.

But, I'd like to get a front and rear derailleur that are in better condition.

Both are the original Shimano Alivio RD-MC10 and FD-MC10, which I can still buy as used parts (which look like they are much better condition than the ones I've got).

But I'm curious to know if newer models in this series would be directly compatible with my existing cassette/chainrings and grip shifters. Things like the MC11, MC12, etc.

Does anyone have a clue? It's hard enough to find information about vintage bike parts, but I figure it's worth asking before I go with the same ones.
