Howdy folks!

Back again to get the word out about The Dynasty Cube, a living, ever changing draft league.

Season 1 just wrapped up over the weekend (Congrats to the Theros Demigods for taking down the Innistrad Creeps in the Championship!), and The League is now voting on rule changes for the next Season while Teams strategize ahead of the Season 2 Draft which begins January 9th!

What is The Dynasty Cube?

The Dynasty Cube is a collaborative, living draft format that combines several concepts.

  • Rotisserie Draft, where players make draft pick selections publicly, one at a time.
  • A Fantasy Sports League, where each team is matched up against one other team per week, culminating in "playoffs" where the teams with the best records play an elimination tournament to determine a champion.
  • Blaseball, an online horror-baseball-sim league that evolved over time as a result of collaborative efforts of the members of the different teams.

How The League Works

In The Dynasty Cube League, Teams of players draft rotissierie-style through the history of Magic, beginning with (nearly) all of the first 500 or so unique cards contained in the earliest Magic sets, and replacing undrafted cards with new cards in chronological set order as The League goes on.

As each Season progresses, the decisions made by each Team continue having an affect on The League. After each Season, Teams will vote on new rules to enact and other changes that will take effect in the next Season.

Season 1 of The Dynasty Cube began on Oct 24th. and completed December 28th with the Theros Demigods claiming the Championship! Season 2 is scheduled to begin January 9th 2025 - This list currently reflects the Draft Pool for Season 2. League Calendar

Draft Pool Curation & Rotation

Cards (currently) excluded from The Draft Pool

  • Cards referencing either "ante" or "banding".
  • Cards banned in Vintage.

Rotation

  • When cards go undrafted, they are removed from the Draft Pool to make room for new cards from the next chronological set to be added.
  • As an exception to the above, if a card has been drafted more frequently than it has gone undrafted, it will get a limited number of opportunities to be drafted in a future Season.
  • Cards to be added to The Draft Pool in the next Season can be found in The Chamber

Getting started with The League

  • Join a Team on the Discord Server and start collaborating with your new teammates, or you can simply be a "Spectator" which gives you some extra access that you won't otherwise have without a Team affiliation.
  • If you're not sure which Team best suits you, you can ask the different Teams to give you their sales pitch in the #team-recruitment channel.
  • If you give yourself the Spectator role, you can always remove it and give yourself a specific Team role later on, but it's much more difficult to leave a Team once you've joined it.

Pete would absolutely improve this Bears team, no doubt. His ceiling these days is an early playoff exit I'm afraid. The NFL has evolved beyond his ability to adapt.

If the Bears want a Superbowl window within Caleb Williams' rookie contract (the easiest time for a team to make it seems to be while their QB is on a small contract), then Pete is not the right move. I would be Ben Johnson or bust if I was the Bears FO.

I wish I had record of it.

They had reached out to me after years of no contact to catch up and we chatted back and forth for a day just telling each other what was new in our lives and how good it was to talk after so lomg. Then immediately after, they cut me off completely for the last few years of their life. I'll never know exactly why, but I suspect they just didn't want to burden me and others with all the things they were struggling with (a string of bad luck so uniquely terrible anyone that knew them would know who I was talking about if I said everything I knew about here).

A couple months before they passed, they completely dropped off the face of the earth and their Facebook was hacked. When whoever now owned the account got tipped off that I knew they were a scammer, they blocked me and I lost all of our message history.

I have never hated a complete stranger more than whoever this person is.

They might be ESL or have a disability that affects their ability to write. What they wrote here might be a huge improvement over what their English writing looked like a year ago.

Attack their ideas, not their language. Plenty to go after there without targeting the person behind them.

He scored me 55 points last night! What???

Damn has it been 7 years already? I remember the "pretty good, for a RB" jokes when they were genuine, before Lamar had proven he could pass as well as run. Now the dude's outplaying Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and has put up a few of the best all time QB performances in the last few years.

Starting to understand all the folks that have been following the game for 20+ years, it's wild how fast the time goes...

It's basically a requirement in the US to file a lawsuit to get anything done with regards to businesses doing shady/illegal shit. There's just too much bullshit for the agencies responsible to go after every single offender. And corporations know it.

Is this... a Cloverfield meme?

TLDR:

Return rates have increased substantially, but not quite to the level they'd hoped. Injury rates aren't public yet, but they seem lower. Expect return rates to increase a bit more in the second half of the season.

New kickoff rules expire after this season, hopefully they reinstate them plus shift touch backs to the 35 from the 30 to further incentivize returns.

Ideally, each team could use another 3-5 members to truly feel like a cohesive team. Weve got at least a couple active members in each team currently, and there's no maximum team size so the more the merrier!

I appreciate the feedback, I'll make that a priority!

For the time being, yes - when I have the time and funds for it, I intend to commission an actual logo but I sadly lack the artistic skill myself.

The Dynasty Cube is a collaborative, league-style draft in which teams of players draft through the history of Magic, starting with the first handful of sets, and cumulatively adding sets in chronological order in subsequent Seasons. Drafts are done rotisserie style online, with matches played through the following weeks to determine a Champion. The collaborative aspects of The Dynasty Cube have also heavily inspired by Blaseball - expect The League to evolve into something entirely different over time.

The League is currently looking for additional participation to keep the final Beta phase moving before the first Season begins at the end of this month.

The first Beta phase (Season 0) just completed (congrats to the Season 0 Champions, Innistrad Creeps!), and The Season 0.5 Draft begins today, Thursday Oct 3rd. This will be a "Draft-Only" Season intended to work out any bugs in the progression between seasons. The League will reset before beginning the first real Season that follows.

As no matches will be played in Season 0.5 and everything resets shortly after, the stakes are as low as they're ever going to be to jump in and see what The Dynasty Cube is all about!

The inaugural Season 1 will begin the week following CubeCon, with the Draft kicking off Oct 24th.

Additional details about The League and Season 1 list.

If you have any questions about The League that aren't answered in the links above (or, hell, if you're just to lazy to click them), I'll be answering them here for as long as people are asking 'em!

I fucking hate this rhetoric.

Voting for a third party is not "taking a vote away" from anyone.

You're arguing with someone who would in all likelihood JUST NOT VOTE if not for an alternative option. If you want assurances that fascism doesn't get voted in, how about you direct that passion towards getting people to vote for someone, anyone, instead of staying at home? That is the only certain way of getting not-the-GOP-candidate elected time and time again. Republicans always come out to vote in about the same numbers every election. Just get more people voting, and not only do the Dem numbers go up, but the viability of a third party goes up astronomically as well.

Just VOTE. For anyone!

I'm now a pro magic the gathering player! Never thought I'd ascend to such heights, I'm terrible at magic lol

It’s that time of year again.

The weather is getting warmer, and your friends are all planning vacations. Sure, you could just go to FNM - or *shudder* spin up Arena - to get your Magic fix, but it's just not the same.

You love the social aspect of Magic. Thrills are hard to come by these days and winning a close matchup against a friend or talking about the latest spoilers with them is still one of them.

But half the people you used to play with have sold their collections off. The ones still playing are often just too busy to come around for a few games anymore.

You think back on simpler times.

Happier days.

Days when Magic: The Gathering was the only thing you and your friends could think about because it was so damn fun. It was social. It was creative. but above all, it was fun.

We have what you need.

What you crave.

THE DYNASTY CUBE

What is The Dynasty Cube?

The Dynasty Cube is a self-correcting, draft league in which Teams draft through the history of Magic, beginning with ABUR (the original four Magic sets from 1993-1994), and cumulatively adding newer sets in subsequent seasons.

Drafts are done “rotisserie”-style, then matches are scheduled throughout the following weeks to determine THE CHAMPION.

After The Championship match, cards that were drafted become harder to retain in the next draft, the next Magic set is added to the draft pool, and players draft again from the new pool of cards.

As the pool of cards evolves over time, the rules of the game may evolve as well. In The Off Season between The Championship match and the following draft, players will vote to enact new rules to The Draft or to the game itself.

Why is it called a “cube”?

“Cube” is a limited format that is typically curated by a single person choosing what cards are in the environment. In The Dynasty Cube, curation will occur as a product of how The Teams interact with the cards, combined with new sets being introduced each Season.

Teams? Isn’t Magic usually a 1v1 game?

In The Dynasty Cube participants are separated into one of 8 Teams of their choice. Teams can contain any number of members, however only one Pilot is designated to play a given match for that team. Teams will also designate a Captain who is the sole arbiter of any decisions made by that Team between matches, such as draft picks, trades, and league votes. It is expected - but not necessary - that a Team’s Captain consults their members to determine what decisions will be made.

The Dynasty Cube as a concept was heavily influenced by Fantasy Football and Blaseball, which sadly ended last year. Anyone familiar with Blaseball will notice some similarities as The League progresses.

Introducing The Dynasty Cube

The Dynasty Cube is a long-form draft league that allows you to draft through the history of Magic in the format of a fantasy sports dynasty league.

At the moment, I've just finished spinning up a Discord server to host and manage the league through - if anyone is interested in being sent an invite link, please DM me!

Here are some of the finer details of how the league works:

Drafts are done in a "season" - a draft plus all matches for a given draft.

Teams are allotted a certain number of "points" to spend on the cards they draft to build their deck for the season.

Each card starts with a point value that goes up each time it is drafted or kept into another season, or loses points if it's never drafted.

After the draft, players may also make trades with other players. Card values do not change with trades, and both cards and future draft picks may be traded.

After completing a draft season, each player may designate any number of cards from their pool as "keepers". In the next draft, keepers will be automatically drafted for that team rather than being available to the other teams.

The current list includes most draft-worthy cards from Alpha through Legends.

Each season, the next chronological set/product will be added to the pool for the next draft, excluding cards that are deemed problematic to the format. If adding this set does not add a sufficient number of cards that 8 players can draft 45 cards (360 cards available worth no more than 1 point), the next set/product will also be added to the pool.
