You are wrong. Usenet uses Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP)  and newsgroups are Basically just forums with different topics.

Usenet is basically the first ever worldwide forum or discussion system and it only accepts text, it doesn't accept binary. Files are posted by encoding files as text and posting them, but since there is a size limit for each post similar to twitter, the files have to be split.

Your ISP can see that you are connecting to a Usenet provider and if you don't use SSL they will see what you are downloading, but it doesn't matter since in most countries only sharing is illegal, downloading is not illegal.

That is not the only reason it is stable, because all transactions are private, it doesn't affect the price unlike bitcoin.

I was making a joke, I agree with you it is over hyped. It basically just takes the training data mixes it up and gives you a result. It is not the so called life changing thing that they are advertising. It is good for writing email though.

Look up Monero, it is a crytpo currency that as far as I know no one has been able to trace.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah lot of companies are way overvalued look at Carvana, how is this company worth 50 billion?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It does empower normal people, unfortunately regulations make it harder to use. Try buying Monero, it is very hard to buy.

Oh, I thought he said days not weeks. If it takes weeks they probably suspect you of money laundering.

International transfers do take time, domestic is instant. International transfer typically take 1-5 days.

I am not taking about money being held, I talking about regulations and horrible banks not technology. Yes, the current technology allows you instant transfer, but it still depends on the bank. For example some banks allow free international transfers while others require a small fee, some banks you can do the transfer online while others you have to go to the branch in person. You don't have to go through a bank with crypto, sometimes it is faster and it is definitely more private.

It depends on the bank and the amount you are trying to move. There are banks that might take a week (five business days) or so though very rare and there are banks that might do it instantly. I once used a bank in the US to move money and they sent a physical check and this was domestic not international.

Edit: I thought he meant a week not weeks. Normally a max of five working days.

Forget bitcoin, Monero in my opinion is how crypto was supposed to be. Monero is untracable compared to bitcoin.

Reddit bans (discuss.tchncs.de)

I have a question, why is it that when reddit bans someone the only indication you get is server error?

AITA for not wanting to drop charges on a 10 year old kid that beat up my 9 year old at school?

Some background my kids go to a school where over 90% of the student population are refugees/immigrants. We live in a neighborhood that is the same circumstances as my kids school.

Cut to yesterday. My 9 year old girl was out at recess. She was playing basketball with friends. This bully walked up behind her, pushed her to the ground and when she was getting up the kid kicked her in the head like it was a soccer ball.   My wife went down to check my girl out of school. She'll be ok, I hope, but she has scratches on the side of her face, a black eye and it's swollen.

School principal said he'd handle it. Later on he called my wife and I separately and asked us to drop the charges because the student doesn't "understand" that what they did was wrong.   I told the principal that if the school isn't going to discipline the bully I will call the police department and files charges. AITA for not wanting to drop charges on a 10 year old kid?

Edit: NO Im not racist. The principal/school admin uses the fact that they are refugees/immigrants to excuse their behavior actions all to often. Principal is retiring at the end of this year.

Update: she does have a minor concussion per ED pa. Keeping an eye on her currently.

In your opinion what is the must have search engine plugins?

Veilid (en.m.wikipedia.org)

Veilid is a peer-to-peer network and application framework released by the Cult of the Dead Cow on August 11, 2023, at DEF CON 31. Seems more promising than I2P.

Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information.

Clarification: after a bit of research it seems the olfactory section pertains to CCPA California law, many places have olfactory in the privacy policy because it is required by the law. I can't believe we reached a point where we have to put olfactory in the privacy policy, but then again it won't be long before Smell-O-Vision becomes reality.

They removed it, archived here: https://archive.ph/YYBuJ

Also have a California ip you get a different privacy policy.
