Having it present a handful to choose from (lemmy.world, lemmy.ca, lemm.ee, kbin.social when it gets supported) would be a good idea.

Or just have it pick a random one that isn't defederated from most others on first load since it doesn't really matter anyway.

I've found the people I know that use third party apps are much more likely to post links and content as opposed to just lurking.

Isn't there a bug in the new version of Lemmy that messes up federation with Kbin right now?

Most subs hosted their content to external sites anyway from what I saw due to how terrible reddit's video player was.

Up until recently I was using my steamdeck for the majority of my gaming due to it being faster than my PC and, but since then I've changed careers and work from home now so I've built myself a new Linux PC and use that for the majority of my gaming.
