I've been explaining it as countries/international travel. Lemmy is a country, Mastodon is a country, you can travel freely between them but you need a passport. Each service has it's own government whose rules you have to abide. Lemmy instances are like states (or provinces or what have you), where you can just... freely travel between them. Each instance has it's own local government whose rules you have to abide. Communities are like cities/towns, with their own small local government whose rules you have to abide... etc, etc.

You can have multiple emails with them, you simply can't be signed in to more than one at a time without their premium plan. Think like Google with it's account swither. Multiple accounts can be logged in and you can hot-swap between them without having to re-login every time. That's the premium feature for Proton mail.

There's a search function for a lot of it. The easiest way to discover communities currently is https://browse.feddit.de, and you'll want to copy the full URL of the community into your instance's search bar, i.e. if you wanted to follow the Pokemon TCG community you'd search for https://lemmy.ml/c/pokemontcg and it should bring up the community from there.

There's a technical reason why that is, due to the way federated servers work, but i'll defer to someone smarter than I for that explanation.

What's the best way to catch up on the story of WoW? In-game, preferably. I finished up in Zandalar and now I'm in Nazjatar and... Who the hell is MOTHER? Why is there a big-ass sword jammed into Silithus? I feel like the 0-to-hero path thru Zandalar skipped... A lot of steps. So what's the best way for me to play catch-up?

EDIT: For reference, before this year the last time I seriously played WoW was WotLK.

There definitely is a DM system in Lemmy. From the website, if you click on a user there's a "Send Message" option, and your notifications has a Messages section. I just don't think it's implemented in Jerboa.

I had such high hopes for them, I really did. Then after everything with the C1 iPad app, and leading in Linux users for so long only to try and erase the conversation from existence... 😅

I do really love their software, though. More than any other photo editing app I've used. Something about the workflow just clicks for me, and if they released a Linux client tomorrow I'd buy a new license on the spot. Not if they decided to go the Way of the Subscription, though. I'm so tired of subscriptions...

I... I never even considered that approach. I always start with the 3x3 blocks, figuring out what numbers are missing and where they might fit. If I get stumped working blocks, I move on to rows and then columns last.

Not so much looking for tips as I am just seeing what everyone else does. I love sudoku puzzles. I don't think I'm necessarily good at them, but I do enjoy them on the reg, lol.

Thanks for the link, though! I'll keep it in mind.

Wait, you start by trying to find anywhere you can place a 1, then once you've got those you move to 2's and so on and so forth? Like... Just looking at the whole board? You don't break it down and work by sections?

When you first crack open a new sudoku puzzle, do you look at the rows or columns first? Or do you work in blocks? What's your strategy?

Soul Calibur is my jam. That, and Mortal Kombat. Never played competitively, I'm not that good. Just good enough to beat all my friends, lol.

Absolutely trash at Smash, though. I don't think I've ever won a single game.

Finding a good photo editing software has been the biggest hurdle for me in using Linux daily. I used to run a dual-boot with Win10 and Linux, but it's been a few years since then and I still haven't found anything I really like using as much as I do CaptureOne. 🥲

100% OpenSUSE Tumbleweed now, and I won't be going back... Just a shame major software companies don't give Linux much love.

Baba is You is an absolute delight, and if you enjoy logic puzzles at all I cannot recommend it enough.

The three gaming YouTubers I watch most right now are Hutts, ProJared, and jacksepticeye.

None of them take themselves too seriously, and love a good laugh. There's a mix of long form and short form content there, but it's all unscripted and most of it is largely unedited.

Patch 10.1.5 (lemmy.ml)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

What does everyone think about the changes to Allied Races and Riding Skills? I for one am excited, at least for the Allied Races updates. I don't really mind one way or another for the Riding Skills. It'll be nice not to have to dump a load of gold into skills and basic mounts for each new character, but the game hands gold out hand over fist in the early levels.

I was looking at the requirements for unlocking the Zandalari Trolls earlier tonight, and WOW. 😱 That's a big time sink! I imagine it'll feel like treason for those who went through all the steps to unlock the allied races prior to the patch... But it'll be nice not to have to drag myself through all those steps. 😅

What's the community's thoughts on these changes?

10.1.5 isn't out yet, and there's no official date as far as I know. Just nebulously "this summer." There are more changes, including Warlock coming to a bunch of new races. Full patch notes here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/dragonflight-fractures-in-time-ptr-development-notes/1587226

I don't know how I never stumbled upon Lemmy before, I've been looking for a worthwhile alternative to Reddit for over a year now. Guess I wasn't looking hard enough!

Bwonsamdi is one of my favorite parts of Zandalar. I wish there was a cosmetic option to replace the Val'kyr with Bwonsamdi... everywhere. Even if it was limited only to players who had completed the Zandalar story up to a point. I'd even give it a pass if it was limited only to Zandalari trolls, but that would be sad...

When I finally finish up in Zandalar, I will miss his quips.

LF Guild (lemmy.ml)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hi, all! I want to get more actively involved in the community/social aspect of WoW. I don't have any irl friends who play, so that's kinda out the window... But I'm looking for a small-ish, casual guild to join for WoW Retail.

I typically play Horde on Hyjal, but with all the cross-server stuff and now cross-faction guilds, I guess that matters less and less.

Is anyone in here part of a guild like that? If not, would anyone in here be interested in a Lemmy-centric social/casual guild for WoW?

I got Dragonflight! I can finally level my Shaman up to 70. 😭 I've been leveling an alt while I waited to pick up DF. My alt is... Another shaman. Alliance, this time. 😂

What's everyone running as their main, currently?
