https://github.com/hnhx/librex/wiki -

Can easily be self-hosted using something like #yunohost, or you can try one of the publically accessible servers πŸ‘

Recently I started using my own self hosted search engine - LibreX...

When I went to add it as the default search engine for Firefox on the desktop - I found that the option to add custom search engines gone (replaced with a 'smarter' way??)

Here is the work around I found..

Go to the about:config page

Paste browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh into the search area and set the value to True

Now when you go to the Settings page, you should see an Add button to add a custom search engine (like you used too...)

Migu - the torrent streaming anime software for Android, iOS, Linux etc has a new release...

Using lemmy directly will give you more control over the post and lemmy specific features...

Better marketing? Not sure...

And given #xmpp can do things like !movim @lemmy.ml, it's a shame it's not me widely used.

On the backend - Lower resource requirements on a server...

On the frontend - Post reactions (instead of just liking a post), Increased character limits on posts (default is around 5000 characters), can use markdown, BB Code etc formatting

There is now an official Protonmail Community at [email protected]

Misskey, Calckey, Pleroma, Mastodon- All perform the same essential function. Microblogging (with minor differences e.g Pleroma has a 5000 word limit per post) Think Twitter.

Pixelfed is an image sharing platform - Think Instagram.

Friendica will give you a similar experience to Facebook (Macroblogging)

None of those platforms have real messaging (Direct messages, but not private or encrypted)

Almost all sites have an RSS feed...

Even a lot of fediverse platforms e.g Mastodon have RSS πŸ‘

It might be helpful to add the contact information for the Lemmy Matrix room using the XMPP address as well?

#lemmy#[email protected]

XMPP users can add this room to their XMPP clients and easily join the room...

Just a thought
